A gold= day was:interpolated into this dreariest of Feb
rnaries for the celebration of Washington's Birth-day; and
Patriotism to the occasion to good account ten this
city. The order of United Americans mustered in pro
digious fore*, nth chapter aocompanied by a military ea
t:tort. Our citizen soldiers did not parade in :gnu num
bers, but the tweet amps were oat including the entire
regiment of National Guards, fully equipped for winter
ferries. A liner bqdy of men never were uniformed, Ind
their marching sad manamering would have done boner
to veterans of the line. The civil wt.'s( the proasiesion
was a gorgeous spectacle. I counted five magnificent ma
tlematie cars, one of which was drawn by sixteen horses.
This vast column occupied just one hour in tiling out of
Chatami street into the park; every divisitiCmarekung to
the quickest military time. The National banner tooted
at sash short intervals along the whole lino, that a per
spective view of the procrion as it moved through the
city, gave one the idea of a eontinuous stream of stars and
stripes being saspeneded over its ranks. After the march
ing and reviewing were over, Hon. Thos. H. Whitney.

the Academy of Music. A large portion of the immense

by any public assemblage. The spirit of the Revolution
seemed to be rekindled in all hearts, and the cheers which
burst forth at every strong expremion of National feeling,

Hall, and a splendid series of fireworks. appropriately

It is said that by way of counterbalance to this imposing
national demonstration, thrill/I will make unprecedented
display on the festival of gt. Patrick, the 17th proximo.—
They expect, report says, to have paraded twenty thousand
strong. Nobody will molest them, I presume, in the peace
ful celebration of their Johan; but it is to be hoped that
