The Down• Town Beggar Girl,
It was two full hours after the carriage had left
the up-town palace, when a little forlorn creature
held out her bony hand—in front of the large
white building cornering on Broadway and
Chambers street—to solicit a meagre penny of
the passers-by. The little girl was so thinly
clad you could see the outline of her half star
red little frame. The day was blustering, and
