Mysterious. Yesterday afternoon a
man was eeea sauntering, in a somewhat
suspicious manner, along the north side of
High street, eyeing everything in the
windows. Tlis appearance and manner
excited some suspicion, and he was watch
ed until he entered V. S. Barker's Cheap
Cash Store. After a short time, he came
out, having under his coat a bundle of
dry goods of various kinds. The persons
who had been watching him felt cure that
he had stolen them, and began to question
him, and their suspicions were more than
confirmed when he stated the low price he
had paid for them, and he was taken bac
to the store to be confronted by the pro
prietor.. On investigation, the fellow's
story was found to be correct, and he de
parted, highly indignant that he should be
suspected of stealing goods because he had
purchased them at the very low prices at
which everything is sold at that establish
ment. A Bow. An affray of a serious char
acter occurred at ono of our priccipal
hotels a few nights since. A certain
bar-tender who claims to be a "white gen.
tlemnn of French descent" undertook to
"clear the house" of some poor white
Americans who would not associate with
him. In this he was aided by the land
lord who thought that his "French" bar
tender was in the right and the poor white
folks in the wrong. Chairs flew in every
direction; one entering the 'eye'-of one of
the assailed. Py this time pistols were
brought to bear against the landlord and
his "French" eunuch which caused them
to cense It is a great country where
white men must bo imposed on by
"Frenchmen" born in Africa.

Pkesidest's Message We give the
Presidents Message in full to our readers.
Being of great length it has crowded out
all other matter. We have not the room
nor time to speak of its merits. The va
rious subjects are treated in an able and
frank manner. Ilia views on the restora
tion question remain unchanged and his
argument cannot fail to carry conviction
to the mind of every reasonable man.
We bespeak for it a careful perusal by all
our readers.
PitErAKE vor Winter. The way to

Mr. Singer is preparing nails and shoes,
so as to be able to accommodate his cus

A Card.
Editor of Sentinel Dear Sir : An arti
cle appeared in your last issue, styling tna
as "master of ceremonies,' and insinuating
that the "crowd" took "oysters aud vhlsky"
from the "dead man." I will just say for
myself I did not partake of either "oysters"
or "whisky," except at my own expense,
which I can have several persons to testify
to, who met me immediately after, at the
"M'Breen House;" and as to "master of
ceremonies," it should be conferred on one
more deserving. I would suggest T. W
Shoemaker or John M'Mullin.

Doctoii Schexck's Seaweed Toxi c.
Thi medicine, invented by Dr. J. II.
Schcnck, of P hiiladelphia, is intended to
dissolve the food and make it into chyme,
the first process of digestion. By cleansing
the stomach with Scheuck's .Modrakc Pills,
the Tonic soon restores tho appetite, and
fxd that could not be eaten before u.sing it
will be easily digested.
Consumption cannot be cured by Schenck's
Pulmonic Syrup unless the stomach and
liver is made healthy and the appetite re
restored, hence the Tonic and Pills are re
quirqd in nearly every case of consumption.
A half dozen bottles of the Seaweed Ton ic
and three or four boxes of the Mandrake
Pills will cure any ordinary case of dispep
sia. Dr. Schenck makes professional visits in
New York, Boston, and at his principal
Office in Philadelphia every week. See
daily papers of each place, or his pamphlet
on coasumption fir his days for visitation.
Please observe, when purchasing, that
t he twn likenesses of the doctor, one when
in the last stai;e rf Consumption, and the
other as he now is, in perfect health, are on
the Government stamp.
Sold by all Druggists and Dealers, price
$1.50 per bottle. or $7.50 the half dozen.
