I Boiler Explosion. The boiler attached to the Steam Mill of Jame3 Young & Co., located on the stone turnpike, four miles West of Ebcnsburg, in Cambria township, this county, exploded on Monday afternoon, immediately after the hands had returned from dinner. The boiler was blown entire ly out of the end of the mill, the frame work and all its surroundings were shattered to pieces. The sawyer, George Burkey, was blown some distance, and it is thought that his shoulder and one of his legs were broken. Robert James, the fireman, was blown a considerable distance and so effect ually covered up with the rubbish thrown by the force of tho explosion that it was some considerable time before he could be found. Severe injuries were inflicted on different parts of his person, which it is feared may result fatally. Texxsylvakian Wanted. The Cleve land Herald gives the following, which, we trust will reach the eye of some friend of the departed soldier referred to : Geo. Wilson, supposed to be a resident of Pennsylvania, was enlisted b' Capt. Wm. Kenny, of Co. B, 8th Ohio Infantry, in Juno, 1861. Just before the battle of Get tysburg he gave the Captain a cheque for SCO. During that memorable engagement Wilson was killed. The Captain, now liv ing in this city, has the cheque and says there is some back pay and bounty due the soldier. Wilson once informed a comrade, while on picket guard, that ho was born in Pennsylvania; that he had been absent from home over six j'ears, and that his parents did not kniw anything relative to his where abouts. Captain Kenny is desirous of send ing the cheque to his fritnds, if they can be found. JonxsTows. The following items are ex tracted from the Democrat of the 13th inst : Mr. Henry Ilcrle, while working last Sat urday on the wooden bridge over the Con eaiaugh river at Cambria borough, made a misstep and was precipitated to the bottom of the river, where his head hit a large stone, and broke bis skull, causing instant death. James Ilaney, a boy working in the miues in Prospect, was killed on last Mon day evening in the following manner : When the miners stopped working in the evening James attempted to get upon one of the mules used in the mines, to ride home, but falling to get on the mule's back, his f )ot caught in the gears; the mule became frightened and ran to the stable, dragging James along, his head coming in contact with the ground, bruising it in a shocking manner and causing instant death. Bv His Works Ye Shall Know Him. Dr. S. Bolford, Dentist, has been visiting our town on professional business for many years, during which time a vast amount of work has passed through his hands, which has rendered very general satisfaction; con sequently, the Dr. is regarded in this section as a skillful master workman, lile still con tinues to visit this place on the 4th Monday of each month. During, his absence, Lewis X, Snyder, a 'ery proficient workman, who received his knowledge of the profession from Dr. Belford, remains in his office, and attends promptly and properly to all work which may be required. ' Blackuck TownshiP. The third meet ing of the Democratic Club of Blacklick township, of which John Ferguson is Presi dent and L. Roberts Brallier is Secretary, was held on Saturday evening last. The meeting was well attended and quite a num ber of persons enrolled themselves as mem bers. It is the intention of the club to hold a regular meeting every two weeks. Black lick is moving in the right direction and her example should be imitated by other town ships. Man Killed. A man named George Wilkison, of Blacklick township, near Bel sano, this county, was struck on the head by tho limb of a tree while engaged in fell ing timber, on Monday last, which crushed his skull and killed him instantly. An in quest was held on the body by Esq. Kinkead, on Tuesday, and a verdict rendered in ac cordance with the facts. Mr. Wilkison was a married roan, aged about ttirty years, and leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his loss. Fourth op July. Is it intended that the fourth of July shall stop over for a day at Ebensburg, or be permitted to pass without having auy honors paid to it. As yet we have not heard the subject mentioned. Let us have an expression of opinion, or some suggestions as to tho best manner in which to observe the day appropriately. A part of tho business only, transacted by the Court last week, is given in this is sue of our paper. Court is still is session. A full report of the causes tried, sentences, &c., during both weeks will be completed in our next. A wordy orator once got up and said : "Sir, after much reflection, consideration and examination, I have calmly, and deliberate ly, aud carefully come to the determined conclusion, that in those cities where the population is very large, there is a greater number of men, women and children, than in cities where the population is less." The orator above referred to spoke correctly, and those who are contending that V. S. Barker keeps constantly on hand a large supply of Dry Goods, Groceries, &c. which he sells as cheap as any other house in this section, are also correct in their assertions. Call and see bim, and you will be convinced of this fact. Scmmitville Borough. A Democratic Club has been organized in Summitville bor ough, of which John Sharabaugh is Presi dent, and James W. Condon is Secretary. Two meeting have been held which were well attended and a spirit manifested which indicates that this borough will render a good account of herself in October next. The young man calling himself Charles Mitchell, who was arrested and detained here for horse-stealing, has been removed to the Westmoreland county jail. Five Cent Pieces. It is a pleasant thing to know that five cent pieces are once more to be coined and put into circu lation in this country. Little by little we may be able to return in this manner, to something resembling specie payments, in small change at any rate. It will be no use to hoard up coin by no means intrinsi cally worth their denominations. The New Haven Palladium announces that the Undine Boat Club of Yale has accepted a challenge from the boat-club of the Lawrence Scientific School of Harv ard to compete with them at Worcester at the time of the annual college regatta in July.
