Tite peculiar taint or
infection which we call
Scrofula lurks in
the constitutions of
multitudes of men. It 1
either produces or is
produced by an en
fechled, vitiated state
Vof the blood, wherein
15 that fluid becomes m-
rsfaa competent to sustain
meir
and
Z,i jfs leaves rne "
fail into disonier ana
"-"v-s1"- (lec.iv. The scrofulous
contamination is variously caused by mercurial
disease, low living, disordered digestion from
unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy
habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by
the venereal infection. Whatever he its origin,
it is hereditary in the constitution, descending
" from parents to children unto the third and
fourth generation ; " indeed, it seems to be the
rod of Him who says, " I will visit the iniipii
ties of the fathers upon their children." The
diseases which it originates take various names,
according to the orsrans it attacks. In the
lungs, Scrofula produces taLe.cks, and iinal'.v !
Consumption; in the glands, swellings whi'h
suppurate and liecomc ulcerous sores ; in tnc
stomach and bowels, derangements whi' h pro
duce indigestion, dyspepsia, and liver com
plaints; on the skin, eruptive and cutaneous
affections. These all having the same origin,
require the same remedy, viz. purities-. lion and
invigoration of the blood. Purity the blood,
and these dangerous, distempers leave you.
With feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, you can
not hme health; with that." life of the flesh"
healthy, you cannot have scrofulous disease.
Ayer's Sarcaparilla
is compounded from the rao?t effectuid anti
dotes that medical seieuee has discovered lor
this afflicting distemper, and for the cure of the
disorders it entails. That it is far superior to
any other remedy yet devised, is known !y all
who have given it a trial. That it does corn
bine lirtues truly extraordinary in their etiect
upon this class of comnlaints." is indNiaiuihi'v
proven by the great multitude of uMicly j
known and remarkable cures it has nii-'io of '
the following diseases : King's Evil or i
Glandular dwellings, Tumors, irup
tionsr Pimples, Blotches and Sores, Ery
sipelas, Rose or St. Anthony's Fire, Salt
Rheum, Scald Head, Coughs from tu
berculous deposits in the lungs, White
Swellings, Debility, Dropsy, Neuralgia,
Dyspepsia or Indigestion, Syphilis and
Syphilitic Infections, Mercurial Diseases, !
Female Weaknesses, and, indeed, the whole j
series of complaints that arise from imparity :
of the blood. Minute report of individual
cases may be found in Ayer's American j
Almanac, which is furnished to the drug;: bis j
for gratuitous distribution, wherein niav he
learned the directions for its use, and some of i
the remarkable cures which it has made when '
all other remedies had failed to afford relief.
Those cases are purposely taken from all sec-
tions of the country, in order that every rcaihr !
may have access to" some one who can speak to j
him of its benefits from personal experience. I
Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus ;
leaves its victims far more subject to disease 1
and its fatal results than are heahhy consiiru- !
tions. Hence it tends to shorten, and does j
preatly shorten, the average duration of hiinmn
life. "T.'ie vast imortanec of these considera- j
tions has led us to spend years in perfeciinp a j
remedy winch is aletiate to its cure. Jins
we now oiler to the public under the name of
Ayer's Sarsapaki lla, although it is cum-io.-ed
of ingredients, some of which exceed the
tiest of Stirsiiarilln in alterative power. Bv
i isaid you may protect yourself from the sutler-
' 'n!; nn' tul,!?t:r 01 thesa disorders. Purpe out
1 the foul corruptions that rot and fester in the
blood ; purge out the causes of disease, and
vigorous health will follow. Bv its peculiar
virtues this remedy stimulates tf:c vital func
tions, and thus expels the distempers which
lurk within the system or burst out on any
part of it.
We know the public have leen deceived by
many compounds of jjar&tparilla, lhat promised
much and did noihin ; but they will neither lie
deceived nor disappointed iu this. Its virtues
have le-en proven !y abundant trial, and there
remains no question of its surpassing excellence
for the cure of the afHietinar
