.j a.. j o Xews from Sherman. We Iiave again to report, says the Richmond Jlctiuiiner, that another day has passed without the receipt of definite ad vices from Southern Georgia. Wc have no doubt that Sherman has now arrived before Savannah, and now lolds the same position, iu some respects there that Hood occupies at Nashville. It would be very d.iueiflt to learn the result of any battle near Savannah, by way of August;, as the news would necessarily coir.e from the rear of the enemy, and if forwarded to Augusta, would occupy some time in its transmission to that city by couriers. The most direct and speedy news tioai Sa vannah would reach us by telegraph w i Charleston ; but we apprehend that the wires have been cut between those cities, a there has been no direct communica tion from Savannah for several days. Thirty days have elapsed since Sherman r:nrted upon his ox;edition, and he must now b near the end of his journey. If we fail to hear of him Ik.-ford the n.'xt chrnie of ttie moon, through confederate sources, the Yankee papers will be sure to contain something; from him by the wiiv of the coast, of the fensati nu! and exaggerated style. We hop, therefore, that whatever news from Savannah rest -lies the war department during I he next day or two wiil be given to the public whatever he may do will have lialc elf-'ct on the fortune of the war. Ilis campaign may t furnish additional material !' r Yankee brag, but has attained no strategical object, Ik yond the ruin of a bdt of country a couple of n.i'es wide, between Atlanta a:id the sea", and his presence on the sea-coast is far less inju-ri.-u and dang M-ous than either at Cha: lanooga or Ad;nta. The liielim ::d Sentinel of December 3t!i contains the following: Such is the position of atf.iirs in Georgia that the e lc.-ny can get no information from Sher in in, 4jt through confederate source. To F!ate where Siierman is, or what troops if generals have been si nt to arrest nia'ch to the co:i.t, would hi to ive information to the enemy of his pos-ition, of which thev :tc now ignorant. The li si lent, in his meigo, t"-vi to be p .ss.-ssed with tic; notion tii.tt th; war has a 1 led to the population and w; a'.ih of the nation.
