The Late Raid.
The rebels seem eletcrmined to push j
their way into Pennsylvania, and destroy
the Central Railroad, and, if possible,
our iron manufactories throughout the
State. The people along the border have
suffered considerable from the raids,
whilst the people in the central part of
the State go on as though there were no
rebs this side of Richmond.
Should the "Jonnic Hobs'" make a
Ktrike this way, they would find the peo
ple mostly unprepared, and they would
destroy considerable property before they
could be checked.
The people should prepare themselves
po as to meet any emergency, but at the
name time they must not forgot that E.
J. Mills & Co. are selling just as cheap
ns ever, and persons in want of goods
of any kind, will sac money by
calling to sec thorn. So don't forget to
call.
As the great wheel of time rolls on,
ami men grow older and more experienced,
wc find that they grow wise and more
discreet They have powii their ii J
at and commence to think seriously.
Old Timo is no rep.ctor of persons, but
imprints his strong hand on every brow
and alike, all grow old, hut in this age
it is surprising to see the wisdom shown
by the citizens of 1'bensburg and vicinity,
by purchasing their summ. r goods and
fancy articles at Mr. James .M Thomp
sotfs popular bazarr. We would advise
.til our readers to take tim y the fl'.o
1 ck. and embrace tlie earliest opportunity
of giving Mr. Tlionipoii a c;.i!, as Lis cx-

rod of Him who says, " I will visit the iniqui
ties of the fathers upon their children." The
diseases which it originates t:ike various names
according to the organs it attacks. In tha
lungs, Scrofula produces tuherelea, aud finally

suppurate and become ulcerous sores"; in tho
stomach and bowels, derangements which pro
duce indigestion, dyspepsia, ami liver com

affections. These all having the sniiie origin,
require the same remedv, viz. nuritivatiori Rnd

With feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, yon Van
not have health; with that " life of the flesh"
healthy, you cannot have scrofulous disvtire.
Ayer's Sarsaparilla
is compounded trom tnc most encctnul ar.ti-
dotes that medical science has discovered for
this afflicting distemper, and for the cure of the
disorders it entails. That it is far superior to
r nn7 ottier remedv vet devised, is known bv all
, v,ho have given it a trial. That it does com-
; lane virtues trulv extraordinary in their effect
: t'Pon this class of complaints, is indisputably
' proven by the great multitude of publiclV
known and remarkable cures it has made of
the following diseases : Kimrs Evil or

Sypniutic Iniectxons, Mercurial Diseases,
emale Weaknesses, and, indeed, the whole-
series of complaints that arise from impurity
of the blood. Minute reports of individual
cases may be found in Ayer's American
Almanac, which is furnished to the druggists
for gratuitous distribution, wherein may bo
learned the directions for its use, and some of
the remarkable cures which it has made when
all other remedies had failed to cti'ord relief.
Those cases are purposely taken from all sec
tions of the country, in order that every reader
may have access to some one who can speak to
him of its benefits from personal experience.
Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus
leaves its victims far more subject to disease,
and its fatal results than are healriiy constitu
tions. Hence it tends to shorten, and does
greatly shorten, the average duration of human
life. The vast importance of these considera
tions has led us to spend years in perfectintr a
remedy which is adequate to its cure. This
we now ofi'er to tlie public under the name of
Ater's Sausaparti-LA, although it is corn
nosed of incrcdients, some of which exceed the

ing and danger of these disorders. Purge out
the foul corruptions that rot and fester in the
blood ; purge out the causes of disease, and
vigorous he.ilth will follow, liy its peculiar
virtues this remedy stimulates the vital func
tions, and thus expels the distempers which
lurk within the system or burst out on any
part of it.
We know the public have been deceived by
manv compounds of Sarsapariila, that promised
much and did nothing ; but they will neither be
deceived nor disapiminted in this. Its virtues
have been proven by abundant trial, and there
remains no Question of its surpassins excellence
