To any such I shall be most happy to give
my most cordial and active support. My
own decided preference is to aid in this
way, and not be myself a candidate. I hit
if Lincoln be renominated, as I believe it
would be fatal to the country to endorse
a policy and renew a power which has
cost us the lives of thousands of men,
and needlessly plunged the country in
bankruptcy there will be no alternative but
to organize against them every element of
conservatism and opposition, with a view
to prevent the misfortune of his re-election.
In this contingency I accept the
nomination at CleavlanJ, and as a pre
liminary step I have resigned my com
mission in the army. This was the sac
rifice it gave me to take, but I had for a
lone; time fruitlessly endeavored to obtain
service. I make this sacrifice now only
to regain liberty of speech ;md leave
nothing iu the way of my discharging to
the best of my ability the task you have
set before me. With earnest and sincere
thanks for your expressions of confidence
and regard, and for the manner in which
you acquaint me with the action of the
Convention, I am, gentlemen,
Very resjeot fully yours,

contamination is variously caused bv mercurial
disease, low Jiving, disordered digestion from
unhealthy food, impure air, filth and fdthy
habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, Li
the venereal infection. Whatever he it.- r.ria

according to tiie organs it attacks. In the j
Lings, Scrofula produces tubercles, end rinahv i

Ftomach nnd bowels, derp.r.genieiits which pro- I
duee indigestion, dyspepsia, and liver co:a-
plaints; on the skin, eruptive and ctiUineous
affections. These all having the same origin,
require the same remedy, viz. put irication and !

Ayer's Sarsaparilla j
is corn pounded from the most ouVtuid p.nti- .
dotes that medical science has discovered for '
this afflicting distemper, and for ihe cure of the
disorders it entails. That it is far superior to
ur,y ether remedy yet devised, is known Ly a'!
who have given it a trial. T;a. t it does com
bine virtues truly extraordinary in their effect
upon this class of complaints, is indisputahtv
proven Ly the great multitude of publicly
known and remarkable cures it has made of
the following diseases : King's Evil or
Glandular Swellings, Tumors, Lrap
tiens, Pimples, Slotelies and Soros, Eiy
sipelas, Rose or St Anthony's Fire, Salt
Eheum, Scald Bead, Counts frcia tu

Swellings, Debility, Dropsy,
reports
cases may he found in Ayer's Ami hicas
Almanac, which is furnished to the draggisM
for gratuitous distribution, wherein may he
learned the. directions for its use, and .-omu of
the. remarkable cures whit h it has made when
all other remedies had failed to r.rloid relief.
Those cases are purposely taken from all sec
tions of the country, in order that every reader
may have access to sotnr one who can sneak to
him of its benefit-; from personal e pi : e.-.
Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus
leaves its ictims far more subject to disease
nnd its f;ii:d results than are healthy oii-aiiu-tions.
Hence it tends to shorten, and doe.i
greatly shorten, the average duration of human
life. The vast importance of these considera
tions has led us to spend years in perfecting a
remedy which is adequate to its cure. Thij
wc now offer to the public under the name of
Ayer's Sarsapahi li a, although it is com
posed of ingredients, some of which exceed the
best of Stisiiiuiila in alterative power. Ky
its aid vou may protect yourself from the suHVr
intr and danger of these disorders. Purge out
the foul corruptions that rot and fester in the
h'.oou ; purge out the causes of disease, cud
vigorous health will follow. Ii? its peculipr
virtues this remedy stimulates the vital function-,
and thus expels the distempers which
lurk within the system or burst out on any
part of it.
Wc know the public have been deceived by
many compounds of Sirsaparilt'a, that promised
much and did nothing; but they will neither he
deceived nor disappointed in this. Its virtues
have been proven by abundant trial, and there
remains no question of its surpassing excellence
for the cure of the afflicting diseases it is in
tended to reach. Although under the sione
name, it is a verv different medicine from nny
i.ther which has been before tiie people, and i
far more ttiectual than any other which has
ever been available to them.
