Cast. Tennessee Clear or Rebels.
Cincinnati, Nov. 5. A dispatch from
Knoxville, of the 4th says, East Tennes
see is once more clear of rebels-, except
guerrillas, who infest our wagon trains,
and mails above. The fight at Iioan
Springs resulted in a rebel rout, loss 17
killed, 52 wounded. Col. Gerrad pur
sued them beyond Kingsport; situation
'satisfactory ; weather fine ; troops in good
spirits.
Arkansas advices say Marruaduke at
tacked our forces at Pine Bluff, and was
repulsed with considerable loss. Most of
the negroes in Mississippi have been run
off to Georgia and Alabama.

Although not disposed to favor or recom
mend Patent Medicines in general, through
distrust of their ingredients and effects, I yet
know of no sufficient reasons why a man
may not testily to the benefits he believes
himsely to have received from any simple
preparation, in the hope that he may. thus
contribute to the lenefit of others. '
I do this the more readily in regard to
Hoofland's Germm Bitters, prepared by Dr.
C. M. Jackson of this city, because 1 was
prejudiced against them for many years,
uuder the impression that they were chiefly
an alcoholic mixture I am indebted to my
friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for the re
moval of this prejudice by proper tests, and
for encouragement to try them, when suffer
ing from great nnd long continued debility.
The use of three loUles of these Bitters, at
the beginning of the present year, was fol
lowed by evident relief, and restoration to a
degree of bodilyf nnd mental -vigor wbich.I
had not felt for six months before, and had
almost despaired of regaining. I therefore
thank God and my friend for directing me to
the use of them. J. NEWTON BROWN.
