Although not uispved to favor or recom
mend Patent Medicines in general, through
distrust of their ingredients and effects, I yet
know of no sufiirieut reasons why a man
may not te.-tify to the benefits he believes
himscly to have receive.! from any simple
preparation, jn the hope that he may thus
col tribute to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily in regard to
II. x land's German Bitters, prepared by Dr.
C. M. Jackson f this city, because I was
picjudieed against them for many years,
under the impression that they were chietly
an alcoholic mixture I am indebted to my
friend Robert Shoemaker, 1., for the re
moval of this prejudice by proper tests, aud
fui' encouragement to try them, when suffer
ing from great and long continued debility.
The use cf three botdes of these Bilttrs. at
the beginning of the present year, was fol
lowed by evident relief, and restoration to a
degree of bodily and mental vigor which I
had not felt for six months before, and had
almost despaired cf regaining. I therefore
thank God and mv friend for directing me to
the use of ihem. J. NEWTON PRO'vYN.

In the lists, published almost daily in tho
