The followiug circular, of very general in- j an terest, has lately been issued from the Trea sury Department: To enable those who may have claims oc the United States for money cue deceased cdi cers and soldiers, on account of military serv ices rendered, whether in th9 federal or vol unteer service' to obtain the same with the least delay the following information is fur Eisbed: ORDER OP TAYMKNT. OrJer Firtt If ike deceased was married, payment will be made first to the widow; sec ond, if no widow, to bis child or children ; if minora to the gairdian Order Second. If he died unmarried. Erst to the father, if tbe father is dead, to tbe mother ; if both parents are dead.toihe brothers and titters collectively ; lastly, to tbe heirs in general. APPLICATION, PROT AND ACTITENTICATION . The claimant or claimants must mate a written application, under oath, and over his her. or their own signature, sta ting bis her. or their own name, age residence, connection with tbe deceased, with the letter or tame of the captain of the CJtnp any or reg iment to which he belonged, time of bis death and tbe nature of tbe piy claimed, whether arrears of pay. and one hundred dollars bounty, under the act ol July 2'2, 1SC1. or three months extra pay, under tbe act of July Proof- To eatisfy the accounting officers that tbe person or persons thus claming is or are entitled to the money, in the character be ehe, or they claim, the depositions of two credible witnesses will be repaired , stating that they are acquainted with tbe claimants, the connections held to the deceased, and that tba deponents are disinterested. Administration. As the taking out letters of administration is attended with considerable expense, often unnecessary, it is suggested that it be done only when required by the Auditor. Iu all cases where the soldier has been discharged, the captain's discriptive cer tificate must be forwarded to this office, or its absence satisfactorily accounted for. The certificate of an oGcer of tbe army aa to the soldier's idenity, in addition to bis own affiJavit. will be deemed sufficient. Where the certificate of such officer can ba procured, the tesimoay of two credible disinterested wit nesses must be adduced, as in tbe case cf de ceased soldiers. MODE OF PAYMENT. Payments will be made by an order from tbe accounting officers on any Paymaster of tbe army. Such orJer will require tbe s:g natureoftbe claimant on its face before it will bo paid . MODE OP PRESENTING CLAIMS. All claimants wishing 10 ob aic information, or to present claims, can communicate with this office by mail, aud will receive as speedy a reply as the business of the office will allow. POSTAGE. The Government pays all postages on such communications, whether received or trans mitted by this office.
