A great light has been vouchsafed to a peo
ple who satin darkness. A. A. Barker, the
great Apostle of political Abolitionism, all
the way from the State cf Maine, has become
the editor of the world renowned thunderer,
the Ebensburg AUeghanian. He last week
ascended the tripod of that paper, and in a
lengthy address, made his best bow to the
public, with all the rule familiarity of an im
pudent clown, and the uncouth manners of a
dancing bear. After doing this he proceeded
to demolish the Dem.ii- Sent, and its editor
start not, gentle reader not by means of .aa
infuriated mob, but with the apparently
harmless goose quill of his deputy scribbler.
Under the circumstances it will be gratifying
to our friends to learn that we stiil Hvo and
tht the Dem. C- Sent, is ptill a " permanent"
institution. As we have never, according to

This every citizen of the county knows, who
has heard him deliver one of his famous po
litical stump speeches, always more remarka

King's English, than patriotism and common
sense. A friend informs us that a few months
after the aforesaid Barker became a resident
of this region of the country, he directed a
letter to Carroltowu a3 follows ; ' Karroll
town Kamburry Koucry." After this, who
hour, the accented time was permitted to po
by unimproved. The Republican Conven
tion was even more bitterly partisan than the
Democratic Convention. It even went so far
as to place in nomination a partisan candi
date for President Judge, which the Demo
cratic convention did not not do respecting
the commendable desire of Judge Taylor to
run a3 an independent candidate. Messrs,
Barker and Ilarr were the wire pullers in
that Convention. They controlled it from
beginning to end. When both Mio partie-s
had tickets ia the Cell, fuch immicuiate
patriots as Morrell, Ilarr & Barker began
to work. They kuew that thtir proposition
made at the eleventh hour would leceive no
attention from the Democracy. They only
got up their Ltter as an electioneering hobby,
for the purpose of convincing tho pe ijl?,
that the Republican party is a better
Union party thaa the Democracy. Shades
e.f the patriots who have gone to their re
ward! The Republican party a better Union
party than the Democracy ! After this we
will not be surprised to hear that black is
white, and that two and two do not make
four. Mr. Barker seems to thiuk that Mr.
Rutlcdge did not treat Mr. Ilarr with proper
courtsey. The letter purporting to come from
Mr. Ilarr was neither written or signed by
him. It was signature and all we learn in
the handwritiug of Daniel J. Morrell. We

oughly developed by an excellent education.
If elected, as a Legislator, he will be a sleep
less and vigilant guardian of the right? and
interests of his constituents, and our noble
old Commonwealth. He will not be found
among that class of Representatives who are
ever ready to contaminate their "fingers with
base bribes," arid vote for a measure, how
ever corrupt and injurious to tho people, if
well paid for eo doing. The conduct of the
last Legislature is a good illutration of the
beauties of Black Republicanism surpassed
only by tho rotten clothing, wooden soled
shoes and stinking beef contracts of Governor
Curtin, for equipping and feeding our gal
