TitT It will be seen by a card in our ad
vertising columns, that Mr Richard Elder, of
Alleheoy township. aou uucos biius.df as a
ficdidate for the office of County Commi3-
tioner. eubject to the decision of the next
bemocratic Couuty Convention. He has ta
ien the right plan to bring himself before
the Deuiocracv as a candidate, and his exam
ple is wonby of imitation by the "many
democrats," who intend asking from tha
ounty Convention, the nomination for some
one of thp offices to be voted for next fall.
Gentlemen, if you are candidates, send in
your cards at once. Don't be ashamed to let
be people know that you are willing "for
tie sake of the Union," to become their hum
t'le servants. If you are unwilling to let the
Democracy know throagh their rtcngnized
o'gan, that you are candidates, you will have
"no reason to growl," if the votes you re
ceive in the Convention, are like angel vis
its, "few and far between." Mr. Elder not
only sent in bis card, but also paid for it in
advance. Go thoa and do likewise.
The White tp. Ixfanticide Cape In
the case of the Commonwealth vs. Ann Hart-
tell, indictment for murder, the grand jury
on last Wednesday returned the indictment,
' a true "bill." The case was then on appli
cation cf the District Attorney, continued un
til next Court, ca account of the absence of a
material witness, who Las joined one of the
volunteer companies now in the service of the
Coited States.

which is our due. as the first volunteer regiment

to prepare yourselves for a nice little sail, and
at t'ie end of it, a skirmish. Go to your tents,
lie down and take your rest till two o'clock,
when the boat will arrive, and we go forward to
victory or death. When we reach the place

Gutta Tercha Cemext Roofixg. Ye invite
the attention of oiir readers to the advertisement
of Messrs. JOHN'S & CROSLEY, New York, in
another column.
The numerous e penmeuts made lor the last
few years, to produce a substitute for tin slate and
shingle roofs,' nave at last led to a perfect tri
umph in the Gctta Tekciia Cement lioonng
offered by these gentlemen.
Possessing in a great degree, the features. of
elasticity, (which is a qualification of a Cement
Roofing actually necessary and loDg sought after.)
durability and cheapness, combined with the fact
that it is weather and fire proof, its geueral a

Refused to Ciieeb. The New York Twelfth
Regiment is Democratic, and when the President
came near their quarters to see them as they pa
raded in front of the Capitol, throe cheers being
proposed for President Lincoln, the men refused
to cht?r, but proposed and gave, three hearty
cheers, such as the trained New York boy? know
how to give, with a tiger for the President of
the Lniteu Mates.
The New York Twelfth is lighting for tha U-
' nion and the governroer t of the Constitution
J rot for Lincoln arjd the Chicago Platfrai.
"ScDDEJf Wake-up at New Orleans A gen- j
tleman diroct from New Orleans, gives a. must
interesting accomtvof affairs in that city, and
also on the route thence. For the first time, ho
saj's, the South are convinced that the North is
iu earnest. A batch of New York papers were
sold there about ten days ago, and the whole ci
ty fairly rang with the effect produced by the
news therein contained. Up to that time it was .
very generallj believed that not only the North
en masse would not respond to the call of the
President, but that a prty would be formed
whose fundamenral basis would be, "HanL off
from ths South." Crords of people gathered
about the bulletins, where the new s -venders hail
ported the papers as signs, and no great tocame
the tumult that th? police authorities were com
pelled to interfere and order down the papers.
The utter stagnation in business circles causes
a deep gloom to pervade whole streets, aud were
it not for a continuance of public meeting?, at
which bras bands and fiery orations cheer their
spirits, there would, without doubt, be some
gieat popular demonstration of dissatisfaction.
A Sixgclar Case of Recovkrt The ro
mance of war is always greater, than that of
Ioace. The soldier who was accidentally shot
through the luns is recovern.z. As sxm as the
accident was known to his gallant sister in the
city of Brooklyn, N. Y., (a marri ed lady.) she
posted on here to nurse him. She attended to-
him several days before ne was aware of her pre
sence. When he recovered consciousness, he
said with a sigh : "1 have a sister, and oh, if
she knew how I am, she would be at my rcu
side !" Like a ghost she appeared, and her pres
ence has resurrected him.
There was a thorough perforation cf the body
of the soldier by a Minie ball. These gunshots
arc not necessarily mortal. Several cases are re
ported in medical journals where the lungs have
l?en punctured by balls without producing
death. The bronchial arteries are sc abundant
ly supplied with oxygen the healing or thera
peutic properties of atmospheric air from respi
ration, that hemorrhage and intlamation are
both prevented.
The Frkxcii Fmperor and the Uxitei

Mr. Faulkner, Ute Minister to France, txk his
