U Italian BeesTheir Ilabitsjand Qualities. The fallowing extract from a letter written by Dr. J. P. Kirtland. of Cleveland. Ohio, to J. B- 'arsons, of Flushing, fully confirms the views heretofore expressed in the Even ing I'ost, of the substantial superiority of the Italian over any other bee for the harvesting of hone: 'In jour last letter you expressed a wish to hear from me the result of my experience with the Italian bees, . &a. "1st Their disposition to labor far excels that of the common kind From the earliest dawn of day to the arrival of evening they are I invariably pasMD" in and out of the bive, J 1 " " ,. i r w;nds and rarely su?pend their worK wr ua , heat or moderate showers, at times wlien not i i i. a eolitary individual of the common Kinu is 10 be seen. Two hours each day their labors are cxteuded beyond the working time of the last ncmed kind. 21. Power of eudurance, and especially efresistiug the impression of coll they pos sess in a marked degree. Since the buck wheat, solidigoes and asters have flowered the eights have been remarkably cold in this vi cinity. This low temperature ha,, in a great measure, suspended the efforts of the common bees aud they have been eating their previ- , ously accumulated store.-. Not so with the, Italians; they have been steadily aecumuTa- j ting honey and bee-bread, and rapidly multi- I plying their numbers. They seem to U pe- j culilarly adapted to resist the chilly atmos- j i t i . .. c phcre aud hig wicJs waien prcaomiuaic m autumn on the shores of Lake Erie. "31. ProliGcncss they equally excel in. Both my full and half blooded stock have be come numerous and strong in number as well as in stores, ai mis iau; kju ot i-- jv j when the common kinds have ceased iacreas- j lDg. and have become nearly passive. j 4ih. Their iudivi lual strength is greater, j and this is well illustrated in their prompt manner of taatiug to a great distinct, with a j prompt manner, any robber that chaLces to j approach their hive. kh. Their beauty of coloring and grace- j ful form render them an object of interest to j every person of taste. My colonies are daily j watched and admired by many visitors. "Cth. Of their moral character I cannot rpeai favorably. If robbery of weakened col onies is going on these yellow-jackets are sure to be on hand. "So far as my experier.ee has gone with them, I Had every statement regard to their superiority sustained. They will no doubt prove a valuable acquisition to localities of high altitude, and will be peculiarly adapted to tho climate of Washington territory, Ore gon, and the mountaneous regions of Califor nia. With great respect, yours. "J.P. Kirtland-" Ueatl Horses. The great agiicultural authors M M. I'aven aud Bossingault, hava proven by anal ysis, that 30 pounds of flash, 32 pounds of blood, G2 pounds of bone, or 29 pounds of cow-hair, contain as much nitrogen a3 1000 pound of farm manure. Hence, we assume that the carcass of a dead horse is worth more ! than a ton of the best farm-yard manure, for the purpose 'of vegetation What farmer will, after this, let his dead animals be thrown away, by hurrying or draggiug away to some out-of-the-way thicket, to be left exposed to poison the atmosphere for miles around until consumed by the crows? A California Farm. According to the authority of the "California Culturist," the great grain farm of Hutchinson & Green, of Yolo county, Cal., contains 5,000 acres, one thousand of which were in wheat the past sea on. 1,000 in barley, and 1,000 were mowed the ballancc being in pasture. The wheat avaraged 30 bushels, and the barley 40 bush el3 per acre. Of hay, 1,800 tons were cut and stacked. Among the stock was a herd of 100 milch cows, a cross of the native with the Durham. Inducing Fruit Bearing. "An oil sub Ecriber" writes. "I have tried with most gratifying success a method of promoting fer tility in trers, which wa3 first suggested in the Agriculturist. I have a large Cirtlett pear tree which has persisted year by year in making a most rampart growth, but which v refnsed to do it3 duty in the more important of fruit bearing. In July last year, I took a stout cord and bound it as tightly as possible three cr four times around the trunk of the tree, and left it there until November- The result is that this year my tree had about three hundred large, fine looking pears on it, so loading it down that I had to prop up sev eral of the branches to prevent their breaking The tree at the same time has madee ttrong, healthy growth of about six inches." "Sweetening'' cut hay for Cours. A cor respondent of the Homestead, in account of a noted itiilk farm near Hartford, says the far mer, Mr Gates, cuts most of his hay in win ter, moistening it. and" thoroughly mixing it with a thin swill of rye,, corn and cotton seed meal, and water, allowing the mass to lie from cne feeding time to another, to swell and sweaten before nsing. "I eay sweeten, Dot turn sour he feeds before it comes to that." The writer thinks the process anala gous to that undergone in a sour apple, which "if bruised og the side, the juice of that spot becomes decidedly sweet in a short time the fachirine ferment." - 50,000 COPIES ALREADY SOLD. Sanctified by the highest Medical Authorities, both in Europe and the United States, and prescribed in their practice. The experience of thousands daily proves thai no preparation of Iron can be compared with it. Impurities of the blood, depression of vital en ergy, pale and otherwise sickly complexions in dicate its necessity in almost every conceivable case. Innoxious in all malladies in which it has been tried, it has proved absolutely curative in each of the following complaints, viz: In Debility, Nervous AjFections, Emaciation, Dysjtejisia. Constipation, Diarrhoea. Dysentery, Incipient Consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis, Salt Rheum, Jfismcit.v'ruaiiun, Vr'tites, Chlorotij, Liver thilaints, Chronic Headaches, Rheuma tism, Intermittent Fevers, PimjAes ou thz Face, Sec. In cases of General Debil.ty, whether the re sult of acute disease, or of the continued dimi nution of nervous and muscular energy from Chronic complaints one trial of this restorative has proved successful to an extent which no description nor written attestation would render credible. Invalids so long bed-ridden as to have become forgotten in their own neighboi hoods, have suddenly re-appeared in the busy world as if just returned from a protracted travel in a distant land. Some very s'rnal instances of this kind are attested of female SuCerers, emaciated victims of apparent marasmus, sanguineous ex haustinn, critical changes, and that complication of nervous and dyspeptic aversion to air and exercise for which the physician has nomine. In Nervous AtTections of all kinds, and for reasons familiar to Medical men, the operation of this preparation of Iron must necessarily be salutary, for, unlike the old oxides, it is vigor ously tonic, without being exciting and over heating, aud gently, regularly aperient, even in the most obstinate cases of costivenfs without ever being a gastric purgative or inllicting a dis agreeable sensation. It is this latter property, among others which makes it so remarkably tlieetual and permanent a remedy for Piles, upon which it also appears to exert a distinct and specific action, by dis persing the local tendency which forms them. In Dyspepsia innumerable as are its causes, a tingle box of these Chalybeate Pills has often suffice 1 for the most habitual cases, including the attendant costiveness. In unchecked Diarrho-a, even when advanced to Dysentary, confirmed emaciating and appa rently ma'.ignent, the eiTects have been equally decisive and astonishing. In the l.cal pains, loss of flesh and strength. debiliatihg cough, and remittent hectic, which generally indicates Incipient Consumption, this remedy has allayed the alarm of friends and physicians, in several very gratifying and in- terestiiig instances. In Scrofulous Tulerculsis, this medicated iron has had far more than the good ellect of the most cautiously balanced preparations of idione, without any of their well known liabilities. The attention of females cannot le too confi dently invited to this remoly and restorative, in the caces peculiarly ahectmg them. In Rheumatism, both Chronic and inflamatory in the latter, however, more decidedly it has been invariably well reported, both as alleviating pain and reducing the swellings and stifuess of the joints and muscles. In Intermittent fevers it must neccfsarily be a great remedy and energetic restorative, and its progress in the new settlements of the Wtst will probably be one of Lighrcnown and use- ulncss. No remedy has ever been discovered in the whole his tory of medicine, which exerts such prompt, happy and fully restorative effects. Good appetitee, couplets digestion, rapid ac quisition of strength, with an unusual disposi tion for active and cheerful exercise,, immediate- lyfollow its use. Put up in neat flat mettal boxes containing 50 pills, price 50 cents ier box; for sale by drug gists and dealers. Will be sent freo to any" ad dress on receipt of the price.
