It is quite a literary curiosity, and evidently was not intended by its author to be as clear as the eud at noon-day. We have not time thid week to notice a few of its prominent fea tures, but will probably do ho in our next issue. Queen Catharino said of Cardinal Wol sey, that his. promises were mighty, but his performance nothing, and so it will turnout in the present case with the Pennsylvania Kail Road Company, if they should succeed in forcing this bill throrsgh the Legislature. The - 1 71 - Democratic State Convention. The Democratic State Executive Commit tee of Pennsylvania, at a meeting held in the city of Ilarrisburg, on the 30th ultimo, una iiiiously resolved to elicit the views of the "Old Keystone" ia reference to the present terrible crisis of our National affairs. The failure of the Republican party to meet in a proper spirit of concession and compro mise, the overtures made for the adjustment of our National difficulties, rcnders.it necessa ry that the united Democracy of this.Commou wcaith should take prompt, decided and en ergetic action on the premises, We are in the midst of a revolution brought about by the teachings of an Anti-Constitutional party, a party sectional in ita princi ples. Six of our sister sovereign States have already withdrawn from the Federal Union, and others threaten speedily to follow. The Democratic party, ever faithful to the Con stitution and the laws, seriously deprecates this deplorable condition of our common and ncioved country. The peril new lmpetsding is the natural result of a departure from the true Constitutional doctrines steadfastly main tained by the Democratic organization tor the past sixty years, and can only be remo ved by the re-establishment of those ancisnt and time honored principles. It i3 not ne cessary to recall the glories of the past it is only necessary to oe reminded or the dangers of the present. U hatevcr u:e future may have in store for the American people wheth cr peace shall - continue within our borders. or our land be rent with fraternal frtrife it now becomes the solemn and imperative duty of tbe Democratic nartv. the only true con servator of the Union, the Constitution, and 'the coualitv of the States," to cive a full expression of opinion upon the dangers which threaten Constitutional lioerty, and menace the rigbt3 of all the States of this confederacy. Therefore, iu accordance vsith the unanimous recommeodatiuu of the Democratic State Lx ecutive Committee, the Democracy of Penn sylvania are earnestly invited to tend three delegates for each Senatoi, and three delegates for each Representative, to bo ciioseu in such manner and at such time as may be deemed proper, to meet iu general State Convention at Ilarrisbnrg, at three o'clock p. ra., on Thursday, the 2st day r,f lbruary A.
