    Domestic Recipe InfaUlble.
1 . To prevent horses an J cattle from jump
ing. Keep good fences around fields of good
pasture.
2 How to sleep soundlj at night Do a
hard day's work at some honest mauael labor,
go to bed early, and always with a conscious
ness of hiving done right dnritg the day.
Warranted.
3. To cure dyspepsia. Take a new axe,
put white hickery handle in" it. bore a half
inch hole in the top of the Laodle, fill the
hole with gum camphor, end seal it up. Then
take the axe and cut cord wood at fifty cents a
cord, (boarding yourself) un:il be heat of
the handle dissolves and absorbs the camphor.
N. B. It will do just as well these times to
take a maul and split rails, at the same price
per hundred, provided the maul be a heavy
hickory one. Tin mauls will not effect a cure.
4. To prevent dogs from killing sheep. If
the dogs are good for anything, give them
plenty of bread and meat to eat at home if
good for nothing, give them less meat with
one grain of 6trychnine in it
5. To prevent wives from scolding Pro
vide them with plenty of good wood and water
plenty in the pantry and kitchen always
wear a cheerful countenance, and epeak
pleasantly yourself.
The Compost Heap.
Begin with the Brrival of the favorable
weather to gather material for compost.
Don't let a particle of matter, capable of be
ing converted into feed for plants, slip through
your fingers Manure is the favorable in
strumentality of whose mystic and occult op
erations he diversifieth the surface of the
earth with the smiling beauties of vegetation,
and causes the waste places thereof to bloom,
and the desert to blossom as the rose.
"Give me a sufficiency of manure." said an
elderly farmer to us, recently, "and I can
work out a living in the country, and from
iny soil."
The merchant must have capital, the me
chanic must have instruction, materials and
tools, and the farmer, whose heritage is the
broad fields and fertil valleys of his "mother
earth," must have manure.
It therefore behooves every one to be at
tentive to this graid point, and to gather np
the means of enriching and rendering fruitful
the soil, tho products of which sustains his
life.
No one who has not made the experiment,
will be able easily to appreciate the import
ance of attending practically and habitually
to the rule thus laid down. Let every one,
therefore, be sedulous in his efforts, and our
word for it, he will never have occasion to
deprecate the results.
A Xcw llace of Cattle.
The Xord publishes the following: "M.
Dutrone, one of the most distinguished cattle
breeders of France, has succeeded, after
twenty years trial, in producing a bovine
race without horns, which carried the first
prize at the great cattle show of Poissyn, in
1854. A cow of thi3 species, which had
been raised on the farm of the King of Bel
gium, at Lacken, near Brussels, was killed
lately in the latter town, in presence of the
professors of the veterinary school and the
surveyors of the public daughter-house. The
report of these gentlemen confirms the fact
that the quantity both of suet and meat was
much more considerable than that of the or
dinary cattle. M. Dutrone ordered that one
half the cow be sent to Ghent; to be sold for
the benefit of the much suffering poor of that
town.

IIowTliey Slake Coffee iu France.
In the first plee it is scorched in a hollow
cylinder, which is kept constantly revolving
over a blow fire, and not a grain of it is al
lowed to burn; secondly, it is ground very
fine; and thirdly, when it is to be nsed, a
portion of it is placed in a finely perforated
pan or cup, which exactly fits into the top of
the boiler, coffee pot, or any vessel you may
wish to use. Boiling hot water is then poured
on, and it percolates gradually through, car
rying with it all the essential principles of the
coffee. As soon as percolation is completed,
the pan is removed containing all the grounds
and then boiling hot milk is added to the in
fusion, and your ceffee is made. It is brought
cn the table in bowls, with a knife and spoon
and a little willow basket of bread. The
servant then places by your plate a tea dish
on which are two or three lumps of white su
gar, always of a certain size, and you sweeten
to you liking. In no instance is your coffee
boiled, and this is one reason why the cafe au
lait and cafe notr are so much admired by all
who take them.

n aperient and stomachic preparation of
IRON purified of Oxygen and Carbon by com
bustion in Hydrogen. Sanctified by the highest
Medical Authorities, both in Europe and the
United States, and prescribed in their practice.
The experience of thousands daily proves that
no preparation of Iron can be compared with it.
Impurities ot tne oiooa, depression oi vital en
ergy, pale and otherwise sickly complexions in
dicate its necessity in almost every conceivable
case.
Innoxious in all malladies in which it has
been tried, it has proved absolutely curative in
each of the following complaints, viz:
In Debility, Nervous Affections, Emaciation,
Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhea, Dysentery,
Incipient Consumption, Sen f ulcus Tuberculosis,
Salt Rheum, Mismenstrualion, Whites, ChloroiiJ,
Liter Complaints, Chrome Headaches, PJieuma
tism. Intermittent Fevers, Pimples ou the Face,
Q-c.
In cases of General Debility, whether the re
suit of acute disease, or of the continued dimi
nution of nervous and muscular energy, from
Chronic complaints one trial of this restorative
has proved successful to an extent which no
description nor written attestation would render
credible. Invalids so long bed-ridden as to have
become forgotton in their own neighboi hoods,
have suddenly re-appcared in the busy world as
if just returned from a protracted travel in a
distant land. Some very signal instances of this
kind are attested of female Sufferers, emaciated
victims of apparent marasmus, sanguineous ex
haustion, critical changes, and that complication
of nervous and dyspeptic aversion to air and
exercise for which the physician has no name.
In Nervous Affections of all kinds, and for
reasons familiar to Medical men, the operation
of this preparation of Iron must necessarily be
salutary, for, unlike the old oxides, it is vigor
ously tonic, without being exciting and over
heating, and gently, regularly aperient, even in
the most obstinate cases cf costivencsa without
ever being a gastric purgative or inflicting a uis-
asneeable sensation.
It is this latter property, among others which
makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent
a remedy for Piles, upon which it also appears
to exert a distinct and specinc action, by dis
persing the local tendency which forms them.
Iu Dyspepsia innumerable as are its causes.
a single box of these Chalj-beate Pills has often
sufficed for the most habitual cases, including
the attendant costiceness.
In unchecked Diarrhoea, even when advanced
to Dysentary, confirmed emaciating and appa
rently nialignent, the effects have been equally
decisive and astonishing.
In the local pains, loss of flesh and strength.
debiliatihg cough, and remittent hectic, which
generally indicates Incipient Consumption, this
remedy has allayed the alarm oi mends and
physicians, in several very gratifying and in
teresting instances.
In Scrofulous Tuberculsis, this medicated iron
has had far more than the good effect of the
most cautiously balanced preparations of idione.
without any of their well known natalities.
The attention of females cannot ie too conn-
den tly invited to this remedy and restorative, in
the cures peculiarly anecting them.
In Rheumatism, both Lhronicaud innamatorv
in the latter, however, more decidedly it has
been invariably well reported, both as alleviating
pain and reducing the swellings and stifness of
the joints and muscles.
In Intermittent fevers it must necersarily be
a great remedy and energetic restorative, and its
progress in the new settlements of the West
will probably be one of high renown and use
ulness. No remedy has ever been discovered in the
whole his" tory of medicine, which exerts such
prompt, happy and fully restorative effects.
Good appetitee, complete digestion, rapid ac
quisition of strength, with an unusual disposi
tion for active and cheerful exercise, immediate
lyfollow its use.

There is no greater want among stock rais

veterinary surgeons. It astonishes me, says
a correspondent, that there are not found
amoDg the multitude in tbe medical profes

men with foresight and enterprise enough to
enter this great field and reap a harvest. Our
veterinary works are roost of them unreliable
at least impracticable in their teachings.
Whenever Agricultural schools are started in
this State, the study of tbe systems and dis
