COTSWALD SIIEEP. Col. J. W. Ware, of Virginia, writing on the question, "are sheep or hogs the moat profitable animals to fatten?" to the Genessee Farmer 6ajs: "Of all sheep, I prefer the Cotswald, from experience. Thej mature early, are large, hardy, aal take on fat eay. Daring the Summer atnl Fall that they are one year oil (not Ted oa grain,) no mutton ' can be more delicately flavored, juicy and tender. - Over two years old, many muttons are belter, as they then tallow too heavily for the appetite; but the butcher will then give almost any price for them; and what prudent man wants to keep mutton to four year old, when he can sell them at one year old at raueh better pri ces than any other sheep at four? I have rarely, if ever, sold my muttons of this breed j the fall after one year old under 10 each, and have soli older ones much higher; and never sold them at the same age under 8 each, without having fed grain at all; and the fleece amply pays the keep. Can any breed hogs show such (clear) proSt "and in so short a time? and they have no wool to pay the cost of keep " KCCPIVG POTATOES. The Country Gentleman says: A cool eel lar, whiah never freezes is the best and most convenient place for keeping potatoes. They may ba placed in large boxes or bins, raised from the ground. If rotting is feared, the bottom of the box should be made of slats, to admit of ventilation otherwise this will not be necessary. They should be covered from the light for which purpose chaff is a good substance. If buried in. pits, the subsoil should of course have perfect drainage. We prefer heaps above ground, containing 50 to I 100 bushels, to be covered with a foot of j cacked straw, and three or four inches of earth K on the straw. This has been found much bet ter than straw and more earth. There should be ventilating holes at the top, loosely stop- ped with 6traw. The decayed potatoes often found at the top of the heaps, result from the want of ventilation. The advantage of keep ing in good cellars, over this mode of preser ving in heaps, is the saving of labor." To keep (IrisK) Potatoes from sproutiuj To keep potatoes intended for the use of the table for spring until new potatoes grow, take b iling water, pour it into a tub, turn in as many potatoes as the water will cover, pour off the water, handle the potatoes carefully, laying up in a dry placa on boards only one layer deep, and see if you do not have good potatoes the year round, without strings and water ends caused by growing. The neigh bor I got my information from 6ays he has never failed, or had any trouble from rotting or sprouting Try a tew.' Correspondence of Prairie Parmer. To Cure Lice on Cattle. Mr Roe has great faith in the efficacy of a peck of onions for ridding cows or oxen of lice. He claims to have found them an infallible remedy in his praetica. They also give tone to the stomach, and are especially valuable in hot weather, when working cattle will lie in the shade at noontime and refuse to eat. Mr. Roe U3es the "scullions." or small unsaleable onions, and those which become soft and sprouted towards spring. lie gives a feed of & half peck once a day at noon, and says that two feels are sufficient to extricate any number of vermin. Effectual Remedy fur Poisoned Sheep. Cpen the sheops mouth, and with a sharp pointed knife, bleed the sheep ia the third or fourth bar or ridge from the entrance of the mouth, and the woik is done, and a cure ef fected without pining away or loss of flesh, as in most other remedies. I have applied the above remedy to several sheep tjiat were flat on their sides, and appeared lifeless, and havo not lost one sheep. Cor. A". E. Farmer. Bones and W keat. According to Sir Ro bert Kane, the distinguished chemist, one pound of bones contains the phosphoric acid of 23 pounds of wheat. A crop of wheat of 40 bushels per acre, and 60 pounds per bush el, weighs 2100 pounds, and thus requires about 86 pounds of bones lo supply it with that essential material. The usual supply of bone dust (3 to A cwt. per acre) supplies each of the crops for four years with a suffi ciency of phosphoric acid, which is given out as the benes decompose. To Clear Ctfee without Egjs. For one gallon of coffee take a spoonful of flour and one-fourth as much of salt. Mix "with the ground coffee in cold water; then put to boil. This is a good substitute for eggs, as it clears the coffee equally as eggs do. Rice BUler Cakes. Take half a pint of .rice; boil in the usual manner. Take three eggs; beat the whites aud yolks separately. Stir the rice in a quart of sweet milk; aid the yolk 8 and a little soda; stir in enough floor to make a good batter; and lastly stir in the whites, lightly. Bake, and serve up with batter. Cure for Corns If poor cripple" will take a lemon, cut a piece of it off, then nick it 60 as to let in tho toe wit the corn, th pulp next the corn, tie this on at night so that it cannot' move, he will find the next morning that, with a blunt knife, the corn will coma away to a great extent. Two or three applica tions of this will make a poor cripfle" hap py for life; and we shall be glad to hear the reiult. ' - LOUIS LUCKHARDT, WATCH MAKER AND DEALER IN CLOCKS, WATCHES a XD JEWELRY. Above we present you with a Jlkepess of DR. MORSE the inventor of MORSE'S INDIAN ROOT PILLS. This philanthropist has spent the greater part of bis life in traveling, having visited Europe, Asia, aud Africa, as well as North America has spent three years anicng the Indians of our Western country it was in this way that the Indian Root Pills were first discovered, Dr. Morse was the first man to es tablish the fact that all diseases arise from IM PURITY OF THE BLOOD that our strength, health and life depended upon this vital fluid. AVhen the various passages become clogged, and do not act in perfect harmony with the dif ferent functions of the body, the blood loses its action, becomes thick, corrupted, and diseased ; thus causing all pains, sickness and distress of every name ; our streegth is exhausted, our health we are deprived of, and if nature is not assisted in throwing off the stagnant humors, the blood will become choked and cease to act, and thus our light of life will forever Le blown out. How impoitant then that we should keep the various passages of the body free and open. And how pleasant to lis that we have it in our power to put a medicine in your reach, namely, Morse's Indian Root Fills, manufactured from plants and roots which grow around the moC3Tafjous cliffs ii Nature's Garden, fjr the health and recovery of diseased man One of the roots from which these Pills are made is a Sudorific, which opens the pores of tho skin, and assists Nature in throwing out the finer parts of the corruption within. The second is a plant which is an Ex pectorant, that opens and uuclogs the passage to the lungs, and thus, in a bocthing manner, per forms its duty in throwing off phlegm, aud other humors from the lungs by copious spitting. The third is a Diuretic, wLich gives double case and strength to the kidneys ; thus encouraged, they draw large amounts of impurity from the blood, which is then thrown out bountifully by the uri nary or water passage, and which could not have been discharged in an' other way. The fourth is a Cathartic, and accompanies the other prop erties of the Pills while engaged in purifying the blood; the coarser particles of impurity which cannot pass by the other outlet, are thus taken up and conveyed off in great quantities by the bowels. From the above, it is shown that Dr. Morse's Indian Root Ptils not otly enter the j stomach, but become united with the blorif-wtbey nd way to every part, and completely rout out and cleanse the system from all impurity, and the life of tho body, which is the blood, becomes per fectly healthy ; consequently all sickness and pain is driven from the system, for they cannot remain when the body beccmss so pure and clear. The reason whypeople are so distressed when sick, and why so many die, is because they do not get a medicine which will pass to the afflic ted parts, and which will open the natural pas sage for the disease to be cast out ; hence, a large quantity of food and other matter is lodg ed, and the stomach and intestines are literally overflowing with the corrupted mass ; thus un dergoing a disagreeable fermentation, constantly mixing with the blood, which throws the cor rupted matter through every vein and artery, until life ::s taken from the bo ly by disease. Dr. Morse's PILLS have added to themselves victory upon victory, by restoring millions of the sick to blooming health and happiness. Ye3, thousands who have been racked or tormented with sick ness, pain and angnish, and whoe feeble frames have been scorched by the burning elements of raging fever, aud who have been brought, as it were, within a step of the sdent grave, now staud ready to testify that they would have been numbered with the dead. Lad it not been for this great and wonderful medicine, Morse's In dian Root Pills. After one or two doses had been taken, they were astonished, and absoluU-ly surprised, in witnessing their charming effects. Not only do they give immediate ease and strength, and take away all sickness, pain and anguish, but they al once go to work at the foundation of the disease, which is the blood. Therefore, it will be shown, especially by those who use these PUls, that they will cleanse and purify, that disease that deadly enemy will take its flight, aud the flush of youth and beauty will again return, and the prospect of a long and happy life will cherish and brighten your days.
