V (5 ( Hovr to Oil Harness. In order to oil harness properly, Tznlmcklo and separate every strap, then wash it in -warm soap suds. The warmth may a little exceed that of new -milk if, approaching hot, it will injure the leather, The soap suds should be used rtpidly, and coly enough' to remove the crust which has formed on the harness by dust settling on the previous oil in. If the application is longer continued, it will abstract too much oil from the leather. Carriage harness, to look well, should then be blackened, and afterwards oiled. A cor respondent of the New England "Farmer," -recommends the following as the best black leg be has tried : 'One ounce of extract of logwood, twelve grahis of bichromate of potash, both pounded fine, and then two quarts of hot water added and stirred until all h dissolved. It is kept in a bottle. This he -says is much better than copperas, which cuts into the leather. lie first applies neat's foot oil, and afterwards, the Bame with one-third castor oil. which enables the leather to withstand tho effects of rain and exposure tban otherwise. It should not be forgotten that such parts of tho harness as are worn and used most should have the most oil, which may bo given J .. second applica tion. Cure for Sun-Strolic. A correspondent of the American Agri culturist says : . "Franklin bottled up light ning, but I can tell some folks how to keep sun-strokes in a bottle or jug where they won't them. Let them just tie the cork of their whiskey ju down tight, and as long as tho string holds they won't be in much danger. If you put a man between two fires it's a wonder he does not get burnt; so when tho fiery sua is on the outside aud the fiery water on tho inside, ho is in great danger. Ulllklngr In Silence. At the Farmer's Club, at West Cornwall. Connecticut, ono of the members observed that no talking should be allowed while milking is going on. Another said he had discharged a man because he would talk and interupt the milking in his dairy, and that in three days the increase of milk was equal to tho man's wages Rhubarl Wine. "Rural'' (Hon. M L. Dunlap) thus describes the manner in which James Wakeman, of Cottage Hill, makes rhubarb wine, which he (Uural) pronounces "much superior to any wo have heretofore met with." "In ' the absence of a press to extract the juice, Mr. W. boiled the stalks iu a common cookstove boiler, using two quarts of water to a boiler full of stalks. The stalks are very juicy, and after boiling, require no pressing ; they are merely left to drain ; to each gallon of juico add two pounds of sugar, and place in a barrel to ferment ; after fer menting it should be corked tight. Three )Ounds of sugar makes it too strong in alco 10I. In using, add half water. It is possi ble that the boiling is much better than pressing after all, and may account for the more mild, wine-like flavor of this sample. It if certainly worth trying; it will cost but little to make this experiment." V7y Horses Bite their Crihs. This ques tion seems very sensibly answered by A. S. Flail, of Maiden. Mass., in the N. E. Farm er, and we give the substance of his reason ing on the subject : Colt3 are raised in the country, and live moro thin half of tho year in pasture ; when old enough to work, they ore usually much confined, and especially so when brought to tho city; they are changed from their natu ral life of grazing, rolling and stretching at length on the ground to rest and as the Hebrews longed for tho fleshpots of Egypt, so they hanker for their old pastures in the country ; and in their longings gnaw their cribs and every 6lcigh and wagon back they stand next to. Cure for Fistula or Poll Evil. Procure a handful of Poke roots, put in one gallon of water, and boil till the strength is out after which, boil down the liquid to one quart. Then add half pint spirits turpentiue and half pint oil of spike, aud simmer away to a quart. Add 4 oz. blue vitriol, and it is ready for use. Wash tho sore with soap suds, and when dry, apply the liniment once a day. Cure for Horn-Ail, or Hollow Horn. If the hair on the end of the tail is rolls or curls, cut off one inch of the tail. Then turn the animal's head on ono side, and pour boiling water upon the lower horn till he dodges, and then take the other horn. By this time the animal will sweat, and three or four ounces of mustard seed ground should be given iu some kind of feed. Seeds that may yet be sown, to secure a' crop under ordinary circumstances, are corn, bush beans, lettuce, radishes, spinach, ruta bagas, turnips, celery, and late crop of peas. All this is worthy of consideration first, from tho value of having a variety of fresh vegetables ; and second, because from various causes, some of tho crops will fail. Country Gent To Keep Worms out of Juried Fruit It Is Baid that a small quantity of sassafras bark mixed with dried fruit will keep free from worms for years. The remedy is easily ob tained in many localities, and is well worthy an experiment, as it will not injure the fruit t . .i u auy manner, 11 it uoos not prevent tue nuisance. Wash for Wounds, Corks or Collur Galls 1 oz. white vitriol. 1 OZ. concerns. 1 tahln spoonful gun-powder, 1 qt. soft water. After wasnmg me parts with soft hot water, and wiping cry, apply tho above wash with Fpongo or cloth. Oyttcr Plants. Don' t forget to thin these out. Now is tho time to set about it.
