WE, THE VNDFBS1GNED DIRECTORS OF TI1K POOR AND HOUSE OF EMPLOYMENT
of Cambria County, beg leave to offer tire followin- Report ;
In pur.Uiinee of au Act of Assembly, passed the 5th day of May, A. D. 1854, a farm wan pur
chased and the necessary buildings erected thereon for the use of the poor of said County, at a cost
of about $25,0-.0, including the fumitnrc and the necessary fixtures of .said building.
The house erected for the use of said piwr has been completed, and paupers wers received by the
Directors in November last. The. number of inmates at the present time number sixty, which
number includes eight insane persons, who were removed from the State Lunatic Asylum a few
days ago. where they have been kept at a very great expense to the county for the last six years.
The amount already "expended makes the sum of $18,500. leaving an indebtedness of about 0.500
which sum is now bearing interest, and snould be liquidated as speedily as possible. The Direc
tors would, therefore, urge the collection of taxes with dispatch, and further state, that after said
indebtedness is liquidated, the taxes will be greatly reduced from what they have been f -r the last
two vears.
There was purchased for the use of the farm. 2 Horses, Wagon, Gsars, 5 Lead of horned Cattle,
5 hid of Hogs the cost of which is included in the amount first stated.
Given under our hands thia 22d da7 of January, A. 1. 1858.
