The Eeart that loves truly can never forget.
BY MABY O. NOLL.
Had I loved thee fur Lonor
Had I loved thee for gold,
'Neath the storm of misfortune
My love had grown cold ;
Had I loved thee for beauty,
H.id I loved thee for fame,
I should have forsoo k thee
I n "sorrow and shame,
lint I loved not for riches,
1 loved thee alone,
And would have shared with thee
A cot or a throue.
They told me in triumph,
They tell me e'en now,
Thou wcrt false to thy honor.
And f.d.-e to thy vow ;
That tliou wort unworthy
Of the heart that I gave,
Less fickle t'ie zephyr
More stable the wave:
Hut their efforts w re vain,
We had met ! we had mot !
And the heart that loves truly
Can never forget !
Think not that the wealthy
May purchase for gold.
The heart's warm affections
Those riches untold ;
That time, chance or distance
Can alter my love.
That absence may weaken,
Or slander may move.
Rememler! Remember!
By land or by sea,
Whatever may happen,
Where'er thou uiiy'st lei
Ah ! gentle Hl,
With the eye ofllue,
To the troth of our plighting
I am true ! 1 am true!
