-PLOWING AND MANURING.
Soila arc bo differently constituted and lo
cated, and present so many pccularities of their
own, that only a few rules are of general ap
plication. That a gradual deepening of the
soil ia highly beneficial to crops, is a well set
tled principle. Cut even this mn.4 be varied,
according to the manner in which the manure
is to be applied ; so that it seems necessary
that each shall experiment for himself on his
own land. Some most exemplary farmers
spread green dressing upon the sward and turn
it under from six to ten inches, and say they
obtain fine crops of corn from the process, while
others declared that they have tried it with an
utter want of success. Now it would seem
that each one might settle this question for him
self, by treating the same kind and amount of
manure, first by plowing under, and second
by first plowing, and then reading the ma
nure and working it down two or live inches
by the plow, cultivator, horso-hoe or harrow.
An experiment of this kiud, instituted upon
each part of the farm where the soils vary,
would produce such results as to satisfy most
persons what particular process they ought to
pursue with regard to the depth to which ma
nure should be placed from the surface.
FIELD BEANS A PROFITABLE CROP.
In our experience we have found no crop
more profitable, than the common white bean.
It require little more care than corn ; on the
right kind of soil it is quite productive ; an J
most always find a ready market at high prices.
There is no product of the soil which contains
as much nourishment, pound for pound, as
this. The straw makes excellent winter feed
for sheep. AVe have found the smaller kinds
to be superior to those of a larger size.
Deans require a dry, warm soil. We have
raised them where it was so dry and sandy that
scarcely anything else would grow Our beast
bean crops have been iion a thin, sandy soil,
po filled with stones that it was exceedingly
difficult to plough it all, and where the earth
over the limestone rocks was no where more
than four inches. One acre of such ground
we planted with common white beans for ten
years successively, and never failed of getting
n remunerative crop, and often had a very
profitable one. This plot was ploughed, plant
ed, and hoed, at odd spells, when it was so
wet that no other ground could be worked.
From the New York Tribune.
THE WEATHER AND THE CROPS.
Penn. Yan, June 15. A killing drouth

Bath, (N. Y.,) June 14. Wheat crop on
ly about two-thirds an average one.
KiiigUon, (Canada,") June 13. Weather
beautiful, and harvest prospects ditto. Wheat,
oats and grass never better. Corn, potatoes,
barlej', peas, all promising. This is the ca.e
all over the Province.
Watertuwn, (Wis.) June 10. Wheat never
looked better. Some heads in the milk.
Wilmington, (O.,) June 10. Wheat prom
ises a fair yield in this county.
Drylestoicn, (Pa.) June 13. Wheat prom

Carrolton, (O.) June 8. Wheat on tho
lowlands good : on tho uplands not more than
half a good crop expected.
Jlising Sun, (Ind.) .June 10 Wheat will
not make more than half a crop.
Augusta, (.Ve.) June 15. Heavy rain two

of barley sown, much of it got in late, ami all
injured by drouth, which has also injured

Grass will be light in consequence of drouth.
Eugene, (Ind.) June V.). Wheat very
much injured by the fly. Com so wet that
not much more than half the ground planted,
looks bad, find many fields will be abandoned.
I do not think one-fifth as much will c raised
this year as last. A few days ago four f i t

$751, and a yearling t-toer f r $41,25.
