Tee "Weatiisj-. If "variety is the spice of
ol life," the present has certainly been a very sa
vory week, for wc hare had a little of every kind
of weather.
. ""First it line,'
. , Then it snrw,' V
. Then it thetr,
'And then it friz."
And now it is raining steadily and drearily.
Well, wc need not complain, for the Summer was
pleasant, the Autumn beautiful, and if Winter is
gloomy, wc can look forward to a lovely Spring.
What a tiling Hope ! In the darkest moments
Of life we look forward to ideal brightness that
beckens us on ever on ! True, many of us chase
the chimera until wc sink into the grave, but
Hope still lingers with us there !
Captured. Mr. Tingling, of Clearfield town
ahip, captured a large Black Bear, on his farm
recently. What disposition is to be made of him
we know not, but would recommend that he be
purchased by some of pur Whig politicians, and
kept as a " free show"1 for members of their par
ty, in order to keep up their organization. Some
thing desperate must be done to preserve the
party, and wc know of nothing better calculated
to do it than a continuation of the Bear dance.
SLACGirrERED axd RACKED.-Sevcral Cattle

Completed. The new Portage Rail Road on

day this week, in honor of this event.
Large Sale. We ask attention to the adver
tisement of Messrs. McGranus &, Rcilly, which
will be found in another column. They will oner
for sale a large stock of horses, carts, &c, and
purchasers should not let this opportuuity pass
for securing bargains.
Atrocious Attempt. We have been credibly
informed of an attempt on the part of a husband
to poison his wife, by administcrm;? t'.rsenic to
her, in small portions, during the period of her
confinement. As the case is likely to undergo a
judicial investigation, we forbear to mention par
ticulars, or even to give the names of the parties;
and will only say that if the facts, as furnished
us, be substantiated, we have a monster living
in our county, whose atrocity can scarcely find!

prior to the 0th of Nov. 1853. The great difficul

PROSPECTUS OF THE
"BLAIRSVILLE RECORD."
The establishment of Democratic paper in the
Borough of Blairsvillc, Indiana Co., Pa., has
been long desired by the Democracy of Indiana
and Westmoreland Counties, and the encourage
ment that has already been extended, has indu
ced the subscriber to undertake the publication
of such a journal. He therefore, contemplates to
revive the publication of the "BLAIRSVILLE
RECORD," and will endeavor to make the paper
interesting, mot only to the political but general
reader, and hopes that in the enterprise he will
be sustained by the public.
Believing that our State and National prosper
ity has arisen from the successful administration
of public affairs by the democratic party, and the
firm establishment of the principles and policy ol
that party will promote and -ensure the happi
ness of the people, he will faithfully endeavor to
sustain these views, and also adhere to the regu
lar established usages of the party. Deeming it
unnecessary to say more on this head, he only
asks to be judged by the course of the paper.
The materials of the office will be entirely new,
and the paper will be of large size, and not inferi
or to any published in the interior of Pennsylva
nia. Considerable expense will be incurred, he
therefore most respectfully solicits a share of the
natronaere of the Dublic.
