The town of Weaversville, recently destroyed
by fire, has I e n nenrly rebuilt, and the town
now presents quite a businesslike aspect.
Indian depredations were increasing to nn
alarming extent, more especially in the neigh
borhood of Shasta, Calumna and Trinity coun
ties. The efforts of the U. S. troops to check
them had only been partially successful, and in
cae of the engagements Lieut. Edward Russell,
of the 5th infantry, was killed.
Trouble appears to be brewing with the Indi
ans at San Diego.
An extensive mine of native sulphur has been
uisrorere I near Diamond Springs Sacramento.
Tii uiioers uenr Marysville were doing better
thaa at any time since the settlement of the
country.
A severe fight had taken place at the Sugar
Lo if Mountain, Shasta Valley, between the I'itt
Kiver Indians, and a party of mule, packers, un
der Mr. Bruuer. Several packers were killed.
The mining news from all parts of the coun
try is most cheering.
