Slick, kte of your county, were summoned
ta be in our Court of Common Pleas for the
county of Cambria, before our Judges at Ebens
burg on the first Monday of December, A. D.,
eighteen hundred and fifty-two, to answer Ed
win A. Vickroy, of a plea, wherefore whereas
they, the said Defendants and the said Plaintiff,
together and undivided do hold the following
described tenements or premises, with the ap
purtenences, to wit : One tract of land con
taining one hundred and seventy acres, known
as the "Coleman Farm," being part of a survey
in the came of Ei'hraim Williams, originally
containing four hundred and thirty four acres,
situate in Jackson Township, Cambria county,
adjoining other lands of the parties to this uit,

ship, Cambria county, adjoining lauds of
Ephraim Williams, Henry Beck, William Todd,
John Barclay and the residue of said survey,
with the appurtenences, of which they deny
that partition be made between them, according;
to the laws and customs of this Commonwealth,
an J the statues in such case provided, and un
justly permit not the same to be done, &c. And
it was in such manner proceeded in, in our court,
that it was considered that partition should be
made between the parties aforesaid, of the ten
ements aforesaid, with the appurtenences.
Ihereiore we commund you, that taking with
vcu twelve honest and lawful men of your bail -
iwick, by whom the truth of the matter may be
better known, in your roper person you go to
the tenements aforesaid, with the appurtenences,
and that there, in the presence of the parties
aforesaid, by you to be forward, if they shall
be willing to be present, the said tenements,
with the appurtenences, by the oaths and af
firmations of the said twelve honest and lawful
men, respect being had to the true value of the
tenements aforesaid, with the appurtenences,
into ten equal shares or parts you cause to be
parted and divide, so that neither the said Plain
tiff nor the said Defendants, respectively may
have more of the tenements aforesaid, with the
appurtenences, than it pertainethto them sever
ally to have. If equal partition in value as
aforesaid, cannot be made of any share or pur
port, there, by the same inquest, or oaths and
affirmations aforesaid, you have power to equal
ize such partitions cr purports, by valuing the
purports respectively, and to award that any
one or more shares or purports shall be subject
to the payment of such sum of money as shall
be equal to the difference in value of any other
share or shares, purport or purports, and re
turn the same with said inquest ; and you fur
ther have power, by the same inquest and oaths
or affirmations as aforesaid to divide the said
tenements, with the appurtenences, into such
number of purports as shall appear to the said
Inquest most convenient and advantageous,
without regard to the number of parties in in
terest, and to value each purport. But if tho
paid inquest shall be of opinion, that the tene
ments aforesaid, with the appurtenences, can
not be parted or divided without prejudice to
or spoiling the whole, then we command you
that you cause the said inquest to make a just
valuation and appraisement of the said tene
ments, with the appurtenences, upon their oaths
or affirmations aforesaid, due notice having first
been given to the several parties or persons con
cerned or interested therein to appear, to appear
if they shall think fit, at the time and place of
holdiug such inquisition, and that the partition
or valuation and appraisement, or valuation and
appraisements, so by you distinctly and openly
made, you have hero in our 6aid Court of
Common Pleas for the county of Cambria, be
fore our Judges at Ebensburg, on the first Mon
day of March next, under your hand and seal,
and under the bands and seals of those by
whose oaths or affirmations you shall have made
the same, that such further proceedings may be
had as to law or justice shall appertain. And
have you then and there the names of those by
whose oaths and affirmations you shall have
made the same, and this writ.

by the opinions of the London Launcet, London Medical Times, aud most other responsible pub
lications, devoted to the same interests. Until the appearance of the Naphtha Syrup, the medi
cal faculty had always regarded Consumption as an incurable disease, and the records of medical
science exhibited no authenticated case that weighed seriously against that opinion. Since Dr.
Hastings' discovery, however, of the new and greatest property of Naphtha, w.hen united with
other ingredients, nearly a thousand cases of
agency, have been substantiated ; and this well established faet, in connection with a mass of ex
periments successfully made of its virtues by the ablest physicians of Europe, clearly prove that
Hastings' Compound Syrup of Naptha isa positive cure for Consumption, even in its worst 6tages.
Three of the main causes of this property of
ordinary sublety, strength, and pervasiveness
extends itself throughout, making a passage of every pore, no matter how much clogged up they
may have previously been by foreign substances. Hence it operates on the diseasd lungs by dis-
lodgeirg the particles of corruption in the strength of its ascent to the upper regions of the frame
and thus producing through ventilation ; and

rup ; which, in a wonderful manner revives the spirits, corrected by the flesh and muscles bra
ces the nerves and increases the weight. Thus, those who use it according to directions, gener
ally increase in weight, about a pound a week and may take it for no other purpose than the
dissipation of melancholy, or the increase of bodily strength. In fine, a single trial of Hastings'
Compound Syrup of Naptha, is all that is required to secure the confidence of patients, and cause
hem to forego all other remedies in its favor. The syrup is made up in six ounce bottles, each
accompanied with a pamphlet, containing directions, certificates, &c. Trice one dollar each, or
Eix bottles packed up in a box, and ready for transportation to any part of the world, can be had
for five dollars.
N. B. Hastings' Naphtha Syrup, being a very expensive preparation, cannot be left with

Of all the numerous medicines extant, (and
some of them valuable) for the cure of pulmo
nary complaints, nothing has ever been found
which could compare in its effects with this Pre
paration. Others cure sometimes, but at all
diseases of the lungs and throat where medicine
can give relief, this will do it. It is pleasant to

Five years trial of your Cherry Pectoral in
my practice, has proven what I foresaw from its
composition, must be true, thatit eradicates and
cures the colas and coughs to which we, in this
section, are peculiarly liable.
I think its equal has not yet been discovered,
nor do I know how a better remedy con be made
for the destempers of the Throat and Lungs.

Dr. Aver : In the month of July last I was
attacked by a violent diarrhoea in the mines of
California. I returned to San Fanc'.sco in hope
of receiving benefit from a change of climate
and diet. My diarrhoea ceased, but was follow
ed by a severe cough and much soreness. I
finally started for home, but received no benefit
from the voyage. My cough continued to grow
worse, and when I arrived in New York, I was
at once marked by mv acquaintances as a vic
tim of consumption. I must confess that I saw
no sufficient reason to doubt what my friends
all believed. At this time I commenced taking
your truly invaluable medicine with little expec
tation of deriving any beuefit from its use.
You would not receive these lines did I not re
gard it my duty to state to the aff.icted through
you, that my health, in the space of eight
mouths, is fully restored. I attribute it to the
