that many political refugees, particularly French,
have been sent into the interior, or received
passports for England or America.
The extreme Radical party in Zurich had been
succcssul at all the elections.
The reactionary journals are doing all they
can to excite and keep up the discord between
the Federal Council and the Central Government
at Geneva.
Italy. Letters from Rome state that on the
15th the Pope appointed four new Cardinals,
one of them being the Archbishop of Bordeaux.
Prince Canino had arrived at Geneva.
Germany. The German Diet seems to be giv
iug umbrage to Hanover, by interfering with
questions at issue respecting the equestrian or
der. The new Prussian Gazette has been- seize-In
four times, and is now prohibited in theAustrian
dominions. ' "
Turkey. -A despatch dated Zara, March 14th,
states that a force of 1700 men had been marched
into Liases, where the Greeks and Catholics had
been discovered, and all the clergy, with two
principal men of every canton seized and im
prisoned, A proclamation had been issued,
threatening with death all persons except Turks
who secrete arms. Travellers, and even those
possessing Austrian passports, have found great
difficulty in making their journeys. Many
Christians have Lad their means entirely exhaus
ted, by the soldiers quartered upon them, and
now wander about without shelter.

tain forty dollars, in two twenty dollar notes on
a bank in New York. The letter was mailed in
New York, the 12th day of January last, to a
man iu Pittsburg, and was sold among a lot of
waste paper to the said company, at one and a
half cents per pound to make paper of.
Mr. AY. J. Reod, one of the lirm, returned the
letter and monev to the Post Office.

The subscriber being anxious to dispose of
part of his Real Estate in Cambria countv. offers
for sale the following property, to wit:
The " Mullen hill" farm, situate on the turn
pike road about 2 miles east of Ebensburg,
containing 150 acres, OuO acres of which are
cleared; a good vein of coal runs through this
tract.
Also, a tract of land, situate 11 miles west of
Ebensburg containing 100 acres, adjoining lands
of Rev. T. McGirr, deceased, Alex. McVicker
and others. This tract is well timbered and well
adapted for meadow. The Jefferson and Ebens
burg Plank Road will pass through it: this tract
will be sold in ten acre lots, more or less, ' to ac
commodate purchasers.
Also, a tract of land, .situate about five miles
north-west from Ebensburg, containing U50

Hall, of this city. The case may be seen by any
person who may be skeptical in relation to the

"I had been afflicted several years with a
soreness of both ej-es, which continued to increase
until last September, (lS50,)the inflammation at
that time having involved the whole lining mem
brane of both eyes, and ended in a deposite of a
thick film, which, wholly destroyed my sight. I
had an operation performed, and the thickening
removed, which soon returned and left me in as
bad a condition as before. At this stage of the
complaint, 1 made application to several of the
most eminent medical men, who informed me
that "my eyes would never get well.'' At this

Mr. Kier : Lear Sir Having been appointed
by your travelling agent, when along last, agents
for the sale of your Petroleum, and fearing it
might not sell rapidly, inasmuch as so much
worthless trash is sold by travelling agents, we
only took two boxes from him, v-hich has all been
sold. Finding it to sell quite readily and actu
ally to answer the various purposes for which it
has been recommended, we thought we would
order of you about four boxes more, as there is
still a great demand for it.

In regard to the e-acy of your Petroleum,
we might add, that in every instance, without
exception, where it La3 been tried, it was found
to give iuimedlite relief, particularly for pains
iu the limbs, b.--li, &c, resulting from Bilious
Intermitting Fever, di'.ch prevailed in this sec
tion to a very great exteiit, and invariably was
followed by pains and swelling in the limbs.
Your Petroleum, in these cases, (without excep
tion, )vrits f jund to give immediate relief.

to express my thanks lor the discovery of your
invaluable medicine. I was afflicted with that
awful and disheartening disease, the Inflamma
tory Rheumatism, on the 21 st of September last,
whilst I was in Cleveland; and was brought
JfMfje from that place to Middleburg, where I lay
on my back for over two months. For three
weeks of this time, I was in the most intense
suffering and ngouy. I lay with my limbs in
one position, and could nut ttir a muscle, nor
have my bed changed. My screams could be
beard all over the neighborhood, so intense was
my suffering. When every other remedy proved
valueless, 1 had recourse to your invaluable
Petroleum, of which I had made but three appli
cations, until I commenced to get better, lused
altogether but two bottles and a half, and am
now well. 1 can get any number of persons to
testify to the above facts, if necessary.

I have been suffering and under the hands of
! physicians for these last four years and had lost
already all hopes, tor my evil was generally pro
nounced an affection of the lungs or consump
tiau. At Iatt I was advised to consult the Ger
man physician of Carrolltowu. He after a care
ful examination, declared I had an apestcme in
the region of the lung-", outwar J not to be per
ceived and if I would submit to an operation he
hoped he could cure me. After I had agreed he
made a large incision in my chest, out of which
at least two quarts of a brownish matter of a
very disagreeable smell were discharged. After
some applications, and the use of some medicine
1 was in the course of two weeks restored to my
full health. Four weeks afterwards my sister
v. as attacked by a severe nervous fever nnd'ev
cry one despaired of her life, but the same phy
sician, Joseph Eberstaller, ofCarrolltown, resto
red her to complete health. Both of us therefore
we this gentleman, next to God, life and health,
nd this is written to give him publicly a testi
monial of our gratitude.

notwithstanding the competition they encounter
from American periodicals of a similar class and
from numerous Eclectic and Magazines made up
of selections from foreign periodicals. This
fact shows clearly the high estimation in which
they are held by the intelligent reading public,
and affords a guarantee that they are established
on a firm basis, and will be continued without
interrupjtion.
Although these works are distinguisbed rv th
political shades above indicated, yet but a small
portion of their contents is devoted to politcal
subjects. It is their literary character whica
cives them their chief value, and in that they
stand confessedly far above all other journals of
their class. JJIai f. trood, still under the masterly
guidance of Christopher North, maintains its an
cient celebrity, and is, at this time, unusually at
tractive, from the serial works of Bulwer una
other literary notables, written for that maga
zine, and first appearing in its columns both in
Great Britain and in the United States. Such
works as "The Caxtons" and "My New Novel,"
(both by Budwer), "My Peninsular Medal, "The
Green Hand,"' and other serials, of which numer
ous rival editions are issued by the leading pub
lishers in this country, have to be reprinted by
those publishers from the pages of Blackwood,
after it has been issued by Mess. Scott & Co., so
that subscribers to the Reprint of that Magazine
may always rely on having the earliest rcadir;;
of these fascinating tales.
