Among the miraculous c senprs was that
of a man who was left standing on the
top of one of tlie walls from which he
descendrrl unhurt. Another man IxVule
him was so frightened, he leaped down
three stories, pcriou-dy tnjuring himself.
It is said that a little girl, who was en
gaged in gathering chips, in one of the
buildings, when the accident happened,
was taken from an archway which had
been erected under the kitchen lire-place
entirely uninjured.
The materials used, in the construction
of these buildinos were of the worst ties
criplion. The mortar was composed,
principally , of sand, and tlie small quan
tity of linve with which it was mixed of a
very inferior quality. tin defectiie were
the buildings, the walls bulged near their
foundation, soon after they were erecled.

LAW.
The following section of a law passed
April 26, 1850, exempts monies at inter
est from taxation for township and borough
purposes:
"That hereafter no law of this Com
taonwealth' rendering monies owing by
solvent debtors liable to be assessed and!
taxed for any purpose, shall be construed!
and hold to make the same liable to be as
hut the same shall be exempt from anyj
