.13r.Plioir.—The surviving members
of GOESpany A, Seventh Regiment, P.
R. V. C., purpose holding a grand Ro-
Union in Good V71.1103a11, this (Thar--
day) evening. The .committee have
spared no efforts to insure a pleasant
time on the ova of this National holiday,
and it.ls earnestly desired that every
member be present.
No GAS.—Tharo wore no services in
3overal of the churches i on Sabbath
evening last, owing to the gas refusing
to lcurn.'' The deficiency of gas was
occasioned by the ice forming around
the largo metre at the gas works. There
was no trouble from the gas in buildings
which have dry meters. •The same de
ficiency in the supply of gas was expseri
°need about three years since. "Lot

WE think 'the farmers of this county

tion, if they would turn their attention
M feeding sheep, By reference to the
sheep markets, It will be observed that

have noticed for several years paSt thht
stock of this description sells at very
high figures, in the spring of the year,'
before tfio Western farmers have clipped
their sheep.
RitvivA.t.—A. revival has been in pro
gress in St. Paul's Evangelical church,
(Rev. H. B. llartzlei‘, pastor,) for sev . cral
weeks past. A deep interest is taketi in
these meetings as the large and commo
dious house of worship is thronged
nightly. A number of persons have al
ready experienced religion, and united
themselves with the church, while a TlUM
ber of others aro "still seeking their
soul's salvation." Services are held evorY
night in the week'.
REVIVALS are also in progress in the
,two colored churches pf this borough.
n
urtAAYSN'ERTAINNIENT.—Don't for
get that Pro ossor Do Lantio, will give
three entertainments in Rheem'S
Hall—
Friday evening and Saturday afternoon
and evening. The Professor has already
won a high reputation as a first-class
wizard, magician and ventriloquist. A
grand matinee on Saturday afternoon
for ladies and children, at . which time
every ono will receive a gift. 4 .„.. 4 . 51, nission
.to, the matinee, 15 cents. 100 rich,
costly and useful presents . given 'away
each evening.- Single tickets, 35 cents ;
reserved seats, 50 cents, and family
tickets, admitting 6, $l.OO. Don't forget
the,date.
P., , ,S.—Since the above was put in
type, Col. 11. H . :Thomas, of the Inde
pendent, Mechanicsburg, writes in flat
tering terms of Professor Delantio, who
has been holding forth iu that pla,o.
" Ills gifts are good, and please those
who'are so fortunate as to receive them."
MOM 'VERITABLE CATS.—Two weeks
since the following arithmetical problem
appeared in the columns of TUE HEnetn :
If 3 cats kill 3 ntis in 3 minutes,
How many cats will kill 100 rats in 100
minutes?"
Wo have received quite a number of
answers to this qUestion since its ap
pearance in these columns, but want of
room forbi , is giving them in detail.
Some showed conclusively (to their own
minds) that it would require at least 100
cats to do the work ; others assorted
that it would give employment to 800
cats, a boy in Washington says one
cat. sAll ,of which arc incorrect. A
young friend in Stonhstown answers
"three cats." which,-is-Eorrect. The
question 1111. i bees thic'oughly discussed.
by almost every person young and' old
iu our borough.
The following is (mi. solution of this
vexed question : If three cats. kill three
rats in three minutes, one cat will kill
ono rat in three minutes; therefore in
100 minutes, each eat will kill as many
rats as.thi . ee is contained in one hun
dred, which is 11.3 : 1 rats ;, if each cat hills
33i rats in 100 minutes, th'ree cats will
lu 11 three times 33k, cfr 100 into in 100
minutes. Trusting that this vexatious
problem may have benefittett our young
friepds we dismag - the subject.
