First Lutheran church, of Mechanics.

Society of the English Lutheran church

Tint lecture of Mark Twain, on Mon
day evening last, Was more largely
attended than any of
, the previous ones
of the course. The subject was
" Roughing it," and was desoriliffve of
three yeareresidonce in - Nevada. Over
a hundred dollars were taken in for
single tickets. The next entertainment
will be readings by Jas. E. Murdoch,
the celebrate tragedian and elocutionist.
GIFT ENTEItrRIBE•—On. Wednesday
of last week, two strangers arrived in
this place, and announced a grand gift
sale of photographs, to take place
at No. 28 North Hanover street, and
that $2OO - would be given away 'daily.
Our citizens have been "taken in" by
sharpers so frequently, that they did not
see fit to patronize this establishment,
and they wore obliged to take their
leave on Friday morning.

This is a very valuable and interesting
little pamphlet, and replete with valu

Mr. R. is proprietor of the hotel situated
at Wilhelm's stock yards. To Cumber
land county citizens, who may visit

pleasantly situated, within the city
limits, and the gentlemanly proprietor

THE WORLD TO STOP ni 1873.--The
Second Adventists are at it again. At a
convention held in Rochester they hain
definitely settled the time for the total
destruction of the world. It is to take
place in 1873. Dr. Barbour, .who has
prepared several charts from which he
has %allied extensively of lato ry ,from
Boston to Rochester, on the colning of
Christ in 1873, and made a speech on
the signs of the times, and cited articles
in the Loudon Quartmly, the gdhiburgh
Review, Blackwood's and several Ameri
can magazines, quarterlies and news
papers; to show the enormous pro Pos
itions of the ComMune, its rapid growth
of the past year, and its preterit

death May be caused by vaccination
'from the premature use of virus, cannot
be denied. We give below an account
of a death produced in this 'moaner.

county Register,of January 20 :

the facts are as follows : Mr. Samuel
Miller and his wife, residing not far 'from

old gentleman—Mr. M.—concluded to
be vaccinated with virus from the little
girl'Erarre, which had been .operated on
by the doctor not long before. Bo Mr.
Diller bad his son pierce his am with a"
pocketknife, and from his daughter's
arm vireo was taken and placed Mr.
Miller's alp which resulted in his death'
in less than week, 'as the virus taken
