Should the weather be favorable on Sab
bath next, thousands of persons will be
in attendance.
Oyu farmers should bear in mind that
the harvest home takes pl.ac•e at the Fair
Grounds on Saturday, the nineteenth in
stant. The Soldiers' Monument trill
also be dedicated on the same day. The
dedication ceremonies will, no doubt, he
very imposing and impressive. , -

TnE Exprese Train, cast, on the Cum
berland Valley, was detained a couple of
hours, the other day, by reason of the
engine becoming disabled a short distance
west of town. Clonducf.'Or Lightcap was
obliged to walk to this place, and tele
graph to Bridgeport for another engine,
which- was sent forthwith, and the train
passed through shortly afterwards.

o'clock, on Tuesday morning, the stable
of John Thompson, esq., of Mechanics
burg, was destroyed by fie. A valuable
horse, get of harness and coenls of the

insured or not. A young man of that
town, no will be noticed in another col
umn, has been al.rested on suspicion of
having tired the buildings.

ON Thursday evening last, a solitary
tniggy, in which was seated two men,
was seen slowly*ending.its way thrvgli
the principal streets of our' town. _ As
tliey droye along, one of those individuals
publicly announced, "a free show, of a
live alligator, on the public square, hoin
-7 to 9 -o'clock." When they. halted on
the square a number of citizens assem
bled to got a view of the alligator, which
was 'qUickly shown to the audience. by
the lecturer. The animal was but three
months' old, - and judging the man
ner which it was handled, appeared
very docile. We subsequently learned
that these individ
. offered alligator
oil fox sale, mill to: be- a sure cure fur
' cents, bunions; croup, &c., &c. , We are
continually learning or seeing sbmothing
new, and-this was a pretty sharp dodge,
mid a clover way oradvortising, their oil
all for twenty-five cents per bottle.

fatigued with the sports and ramblings
of the day.
