the junction with a wedding party, On

ELOPEMENT.—The citizens of Mount
have been unusually excited dur
ing the past week, owing to the sudden
disappearance of two of their number.
Without going into details, we will
merely say, that the parties in this case,
a•e an engineer, lately employed in oue
of the ore , bankS, and , the wife of an
employee of the Paper Mill. Their
whereabouts are unknown, and the
disconsolate husband is left to mown
over the loss of his "worse-half," and
six of his best fine shirts.

FELL ASLEEP IN MARKET.— On last
Saturday morning, between l and 5
o'clock, as H Oise, from the rural
district, in attendance at market, no
doubt being very drowsy from the loss of
his accustothed slumber, fell asleep on
his feet and dropped over. Making a
considerable noise and cominotion,
number of pu,sons rushed to the spot,
and assisted him .to riee. Sonic ono
cruelly remarked at this time, "lhat„he
was itlways asleep—being blind';" but
this was a_ cruel_ pun at his expense'.
After regaining his fipt once more, he
'appeared to be thoroughly aroused, and
was not again caught "napping in
market:"
- FLowEn THIEVES.—Cei fain persons
are engaged in stealing flowers, shruh
hery,.&c., from graves in tho old grave
yard. A friend of ours informs us, that
for three *specessive weeks, boquets
placed on the graves of his departed
children, have .been ruthlessly stolen
therefrom and destroyed. Suspicion
rests upon certain parties, who, if de
tected, will be brought to justice. For
.the benefit of this class of. persBns, we
publish the .following notice, conspicu
ously painted and placed at the entrance
to the said grounds :.
"If any person shall wantonly cut,
injure, deface or destroy any monument,
tombstone;-or-grave„ or shall break, in‘
jure, or bike away any railing, tree,
shrub or flower, planted or placed within
the - enclosure oC. said graveyard, he or
she shall, upon conviction thereof .Ikcfore
any fustice of the peace,
s pay a fine of
not' less than $l, -nor exceeding $:2O, as
said justice may impose, raid pay the
family the damage sustained.'

of the American Tract Society, hold in
the First Lutheran church, in Carlisle,
on Sabbath'evening,_ the twenty-eighth,'
at 71 o'clock. Addresses will be de
livered by the Rev. J. IV. Ethic, District
Secretary, and •by the pastors of the
churches. "The Society's business de
partment sustains itself." Donations
are needed only for the benevolent, work
of the society. These maybe handed to
him at the close of the meeting, or when
ho calls upon you at your homes and at
your places of business. The Society is
now distributing, gratuitously, in books,
periodicals and tracts,:sl,2oo per week.'

IMPROVEMENT.—The Free Press, of
the twentieth instant, printed at Stras
burg, Lancaster county, PM, by Geo. 'B.
Eager, iTs9 i , reaches us greatly improved
in appearance, having just completed its
first year. The Press is a spicy little
paper, and George appears to understand
his "biz" in "Ting" it. Success to
it.

ware, willowware, together with, every
article to be obtained in a first-class gro
cery. Mr. K. hopes, by a strict atten
tion to business, to obtain the patronage
of citizens residing in that neighborhood.

DECORATI ON DAY !-A meeting of re
turned soldiers was held on Monday
evening last, to make arrangements for
tho..annual oligurvance of -- "Decoratimr
Day," which this year occurs on Tues
day, the thirtieth of May, Tho meeting
resolved upon a programme similar to°
that of last year. Invitations to join in
the parade, will be given to Col. Sumner,
and the menonnder his command at the
Barracks ; to the directors, teachers and
pupils of the public schools ; to the va-•
ribus Benevolent and Fraternal Socie
ties, and to the several Fire Companies,
and it it hoped all will cordially join,
and form-an imposing , procession. The
co-operation of the ladies, is, of course,
confidently expected, not only in gracing
the occasion with their presence, but in I
contributing tloWerS. .
The action of the meeting on' Monday
evening, was mainly preliminary. Final
,and complete arrangements will be made
ran adjourned meet log, to be held in the
Arbitration Chamber, on Thursday even
ing, at Bo'clock, which it is to be hoped
every soldier in — earth:to Will attend
Though no progratmne las yet been issu
ed, the exercises on Decoration Day will
probably consist of a meeting in the Court
Room at 2 o'clock ; -p:' M.,'on the thirti
eth, when all joining in the procession

dresS by Rev. W. C. Leverett, who will
be assisted in the exercises, by Rev. Mr.
