'Thassynous FlRM—Newburg, a small
Tillage, in the upper end of the county,
zontaininglfabout GOO inhabitants, has
been visited by a disastrous fire. The
following particulars obtained from an
.‘eyo-witness, and one of the principal
sitilTerors, we lay • before. our readers :
Between l 2 and 1 o'clock on Monday
morning last, a fire broke out in the
stable of C. C. Stevick, csq., the Ilamds
then communicated to the stables of
Henry Clippinger, Daniel McCoy, George
Gilbert and C. Hartzell. Six stables in
all wore burned to the ground, two of
which wore owned by Mr. McCoy. The
outbuildings attached .to- the different
properties. excepting ono, were burned
down...
The flat was supposed to have been
seen first by Dr Burge, but as he is
.speechless, considerable time elapsed
before the citizens were awakened.
. After. being thoroughly aroused, the
• citizens worked heroically and unceas
ingly, until they wore almost exhausted,
being destitute of a fire engine, they
were compelled to carry water in buckets,
from the neighboring wells and pumps.
Fortunately there was no wind at the
time, or the' little village, along the
7 mountain side, might have boon laid in
:ashes. As it was, groat difficulty was
experienced in. preventing the flames
:rpm communicating to..the residences of
(the citizens. The roofs of six different
(horses wore on fire, but, soon. extin
guished. A-barn belonging to' Captain
(Carson, at the upper end of the village,
'was on fire, bet the dames were subdued
lbeforerany.seniene damage was done.
'The,fire ',Continued to burn until noon
idf Monday, metlkwithstanding teams
'*ere busily engaged hauling' water
from the neighboring stream. When
'the fire was first discovered., the bolls on
:the school houses and churches wore
irung, and the people for miles around
'soon began to arrive and assist in chock
ling the devastating. flames. •
entiro loss is estimated nt from
$3,000 to $4,000; some of tho properties
are insured in the Lurgan Insurance
Company of Franklin county.
Mr. C. C.. &crick, cabinetmaker, lost
:a horse valued at $l5O ; a cow worth, at
Beast $75 ; a hearse, valued at $l5O ; and
.0 fine hogs, together with several him
,dred feet of lumber, worth about $2OO.
Mr..C , s loss is. fully $l,OOO, partly
insured. George Gilligrt lost 2 largo
.hogs..
The origin of the fire is unknown, but
'it is very generally conceded to have
boon the work , of ',the incendiary, in a
spirit of revenge. This is not the first
fire that has visited Newburg. On the
.seventeenth of March last, a large barn
was destroyed by fire. Two years shape,
the large hank barn and stable of Mr.
,McCoy, was burned to the ground, and
in the present conflagration, Mr. M.
loses a bank barn, and a nevi 'frame
stabli. Our informant also tells us that
„throats to fire other properties, have
since been made.
ANOTHER F1RE....-Three" stables were
destroyed by tiro, on Saturday evening
,
last, in Orrstown. valuablo'cow was
consumed in the flames. It is said to
have boon the work of an incendiary.

• Miring for the list thirty-flre years devoted My
whole time end attention to the study of lung die

the course that ought-to be pursui d to restorea
tolerably bad enema diseased lungs to healthy sound

patient to . avoid taking cold, and best of all

point I can recommend. A good hotel is kept there

under the healing influence of the climate and my

eouthern point is 'earnestly recommended.
For fifteen yearn prior to 1.69, I ma. professionally
in Now Fmk, Boston, Baltimore, and Philadelphia
every week, where I ease and usamined on on aver.
five hundred patients a week. A practice so
extennive, embracing every possible phase of lung
disease, hoe enabled me to understand the disown)
fully, and hence my caution in regard to taking
cold: - A pereon may take vent quantities of "Schenck's
Pulmonie Syrup, Seaweed Toaie and Mandrake
Pills," and yet die if he does notAvold taking-cold.
In Florida. nearly everybody is tieing Schenck's
Mandrake Pills, for the climate to more likely to
prodinebilious habits than mere.tiorthern latitudes.
It in a well established het that natives of Fiorito
rarely die of, consumption, esp.elally those of the
southern part. On the otter hand, in Now England,
one-third, at tenet, of the popfation die of this terri

Mandrake Pills, and go to Florida , I reconfmend

clan who prescribes for cold, cough, or eight-sweate,
and then advises the patient to n nik or ride out
every day, will be sure to have a corpse on his hand.
before long.
My-plan is to give my three medicines, in occord
once with the .printed directions, except in mime
cases, where a liver use of the Mandrake Pills is
neceteary. My otject in to give tone to the stoma Is
—to got up a good appetite. It in always a good
sign la hen a patient I.4gius to grow hungry. I bare
hopes of such. With a relish fur food and the grati•
fleatTon of that relish comes good blood, and tvith it
moro (Irish, which is closely followed by a healing of
the lunge. '1 het Cho cough loosens and abates, the
creeping chills and claminy night.sweats no longer
prostrate end annoy, and the patient gets well, pro
vitithi lie avoids taking cold.
KW there are trimly consumptives who have not
the Menne to go so Florida. The question may ho
asked, is there no hope tar each! Certainly there
ie. My advice to much tooted everlne been, to stay
in a warm room during the w triNri; with a tempera
ture of about seventy degrees, which should be kept
regularly at that point, by moans of a thermometer.
Lot such a patient take his exercise within rise Inane
of the room by walking up and down as much as his
strength will permit, In order to keen up a healtby
circulation of the blood. I have-cured thoneauda by
this system, and eon do so again. Consumption is no
entity cured no any other disease if It in tonso in
