NEW POSTOFFICE BOXEB.—Mr. , A. K.
Mem, the energetic and accommodating
postmaster at this phice, has procured,
and placed in position si Thursday last,
21 of the Yale Patent postale° Lock
Boxes. These boxes are very simple in
their construction, and the glass front is
protected by two brass rods. Each box
is furnished with three small keys, each
mado e of a thin, pie& of steel with cor
rugated edges, they aro perfectly burglar
proof, and cannot- be counterfeited
by an ordinary-locksmith. Over 5,000 of
these boxes are at the present time in
use in the city of Boston, and they aro
being rapidly introduced into all the first-•

Itheem procured the boxes at his own
expense, while the Government derives
all the revenue arising from the rental
of them.
SuccEssnr, StIMICAL OPERATION.—
It will be remembered by many of our
readers, that Mr.
_Lewis Bosh, of the
late firm of Cornelius & Bosh, of this
place, had Ids foot crushed by a car on
the C. V. 11. R., at Bridgeport, this
county, on ,the thirty-first day of Octo
ber, 1809. On the same hay Mr. Bosh
had an amputation performed. This, in
surgery, is.•called Choparts' operation.
It consists in going down through the
articulations of the 11)4, leaving the heel
for a stump ; but as this case was one
where the whole front of the foot was
crushed, no ttapi to cover the wound
could be obtained, and as the surgeon
wished to leave as much stump as possi
ble, lie performed the operation without
any flap, endeavoring to heal the wound
by granulations from the edges. This
,hope, unfortunately, was a,vain one, its
the wound was converted into a 'slough
ing ulcer, necessitating a second ampu
tation, which operation was performed
in the surgical rooms Qf the University
of Pennsylvania.
'Phis-operation—was successfully,per
formed by Prof. D. - llayes Agnew, M.
D., Demonstrator and Shrgeon, on the
fifteenth of October last. Ono week
from the time the, operation was per
formed the patient was able to sit up,
and from the first showed no evidence of
shock or prostration. As a ' surgeon
Prof. Agnew stands second to hone in
the United States.
These operations are all - perfoniled by
Dr. Agnew( assisted by Dr. C. T. Hun
ter,- chief ogistaff, and Drs. Markoe, Mil
lard, and Richardson.
The patients at this University ,are
nursed and taken care of by details of
students who havo already attended one
or two courses of lectures, thus render
- ing them competent to carry out any di
rections that may be given by the Sur-
goon
These operations are performed free
of charge. If the patient possesses the
.rxieans, he is charged for his board, (at a
reasonable rate,) but no other charge is
allowed to be made by any ono. The
rooms arc often the scene of operations
on some of the best persons in the
country, as the medical faculty deem it
their duty to promote science, by allow
ing the medical class to witness the
operations performed ; and, also, as
they arc conducted in quiet, without in
terruption or inconvenience. There are
:also specialdriys ie each week set apart
for operatidne for cancer diseases of the
eye ; car and mouth.
The University was foundcj in 1705,
:and since then has been reiogMzed as
the leading Medical College in the coon
try, having graduated over 10,0'10 of its
:students. It is located on Ninth street,
',between Market and Chestnut.

Dear Sir—l have been a sufferer, for upward of
twenty yearn, will, gravel, bladder told kidney affec
tions, during which time I have used various medic
inal preparatlsm, and been.under the treatment of
the moat eminent pita sicisne, experiencing but Ilttfe
relief.
Having seen your preparations extensively ad•ere
Used, I consulted with lily family physician in
regard to using your Extract Boehm.
I did this bot.ieuse I had used all kinds of !advertised
remedies, and had found them worthress, and coma
quite Injurious; in fact, I despaired of ever getting
well, and determined to use no remedffs hereafter
unless I knew of the Ingredients. • It was this that
prompted me to nee yobr remedy. As you ode ertised
that it wan composed of harlot, eubelis, and Junlpor
berries, it occurred to mo and my physician MI all
excellent combination, and, with his advice, after an
°nomination of the article, and consulting again
with the druggist, I concluded ten try it. I com
menced itk use about eight months ago, at which
time I was confined In illy robin. From the first
bottle I was astonished and gratified at the benefi
cial effect, and after using It three weeks, 'Was able
,to walk out. I felt much like writing you a full
oratement of ney,ase at that time, but thought my
improvement might only ,ho temporary, and there,-
fere concluded to doterand if it world effect a
port, el cure, knowing then It Would bybf grunter
value to you. and inure suit-factory to Ina:
I am flow able to report that a cure Is vlTctoil
using the remedy fur five months.
I 'have not need any now for threo month, and
fuel as MI I in a'l respects as I over did.
Your Bimini being devoid of any unpleasant taste
and odor, a nice tonic and Invlgorotor of the system,
I do not mean to be without It whensver oerosien
may require Ifs ono In cinch affections.
