    [CONTINUILD FROM. FIRST FACIE.]
subject Juno 26, 1866, says his relatives
had declared themselves ready, in' pies.
once of the prison warden, to pay the
expenses of his voyage to America. The
warden joins in the recommendation d
botl minister hind—police inspector for'
pardon upon the conditions named, &c.l :
' Upon which the' court observes : ,
"Paid Eichreppe,'a Youth of immense
levity and an illimitable desire for amuse
ment, abused the confidence placed in him
by Count I.llankonsee in the most crim
inal manner, by stealing from his
and papers of the value of about 90,-
000 dialers. Ile had the impudence to
.pronounce the accusations against the
wife of his. principal, the Countess Blank
enseo, aged 63 years, viz : That the
‘same had given him the money for shown
favors. Ho has betrayed himself by his
escape, shrewdly planned, from the royal
palace As a most dangerous criminal.
The discovery of the theft was rendered
more difficult by his falsifying in the
most wicked manner, the lists (numbers)
of the stolen papers (bonds). To this, in
itself a most wicked theft, comes the
forgery of a document. The uncom
mon degree of education and the shrewd,
peas of Paul Schmppo render him a pe
culiarli dangerous criminal. His pun
ishment was correctly meted out. Only
, his good &induct in the penitentiary is
offered as -a mitigating. circumstance,
but in consideration of the aggravated
circumstances, we cannot preface (re
commend) the remission -of the balance
bf his sentence, &c.

[This description is authenticated by
the official seal of the American legation
at Berlin, and is said to correspond in
every particular with the person of-Paul
Scheeppe, at Carlisle, with the exception
that his figure is not considered "lank"
in the American sense, and besides his
figure has probably grown stouter since
the date of the description, in 962. An
attempt was made to convoy theimpies
sion that it was another Paul Schmppo
arffi faller - Who were convicted in Berlin,
but that • absurd report, apart from the
accuracy of the description; 'is exploded
by attendant circumstances. Besides,
the Carlisle Bclueppe, it is stilted, has
been pdsitively identified by several re
spectable' gentlemen of Baltimore and
other places, who saw him in Prussia.

SCIICEPPE'S CAREER IN AMERICA
The elder •Schteppe, after serving out
his sentence in the penitentiary, came
to this country and settled at Carlisle,
Pa., as pastor of the Lutheran church,
in that pilled. His son, Paul Schcoppe,
after serving- out his five and 'af half
years' sentence in the penitentiary, was
permitted to escape the five years' sur
veillance of the police (being a part of
his sentence), to depart for_America.
He also settled at Carlisle, in 1868, and
falsely assumed the profession of a phys
ician.' On the twenty-eighth of Janu

Seheappe-was tried in the court at Car-._

convicted of the murder of Miss Stin

executed on a day fixed by the Governor.
In the meantime the case was taken
-up to the Supreme Court of Penn4lva

judgment of the .court was rendered in

court at Carlisle. In the meantime, the
day fixed by the Governor for his execu
tion had passed, and Scheoppe is now in
jail, subject' to execntion; whenever the
Governor of, Pennsylvania shall fix the

prove the forged will of Miss Stinuocke,
.(as,alleged), filed by Schcoppe in the Or
