Visimons:—Carlisle has, during the present summer, been tolerably woll filled with visitors. All our hotels are more or, less'. crowded, while many 'pri vate families havo visitors, glad to get away from the dust and heat of the large cities. Our town offers full as many inducements to summer visitors as the majority.of the fashionable resorts, while the accommodations aro far supe rior. The Bentz ileum, which is one of the best kept hotels between Philadelphia and Pittsburg, has had quite a large number of boarding during the past two 'months, and there is no reason why eve- ry hotel in town should not be crowded with - city boarders during the heated term, and we hope by another season to find this the case. DISEASE AMONG Cipmcmcs2—A very fatal disease , has broken out among the chickens in'this borough and surround ing country. We know of ono gentle man who has lost several very valuable fowls within a short space of , time. No remedy, as yet, has been procured that will stay its ravages. When once it at tacks the chickens it generally proves fatal to the entire flock, A friend of ours purchased a splendid pair of chick ens at market on Saturday morning last, paying fifty cents for them, intending to have them for his dinner on Sunday. But in these expectations he was terribly deceived. After he had murdered one of them and removed the feathers, the skin was found to be of a purplish color. No "chuck" for him that time. The other. chicken was allowed to go free.. Our eilizens 5110111(1 be - very careful in the -seleetion-of-the-fowls, -as—the Aiseasear pears to he pretty general. A NOTIrEft MAD DOG. —On Monday morning last, a dog on North Hanover. street, formerly belonging to Harry Noble, was attacked with hydrophobia, and began frothing, at the mouth, and luting in a very singular manner. The residents in that portion of the town be coming greatly alarmed, sent for Mr. ThMims C(rlberl, who, being tarnished with a musket,,killed him on the spot. The dog was not. munithl, and - had it not Wen for the timely arrival.of Mr. C., there is no estimating the extent of, injury, or the number of peptons that might have been bitten by the . rabid ME . The Council, at their regular meeting, done nothing towards having an ordi nance passed relative to the muzzling of canines. Gentlemen, we are very much afraid that we will be obliged to chroni cle some fearful case of hydrophobia are the present heated term expires, and the blame will Certainly rest.on_some persoles_ shoulddrs. CA-Mr Mmtritco.—The camp meeting of the Carlisle District of the ,Methodist Episcopal church will close to-morrow. The' proceedings have been very interest ing, and the - attendance large. On last L," ' 'mated-thore—were-cvom -8,000 to 10,000 people in attendance, and the behavior of the vast crowd teas decorousan the extreme. , We had intended to give. au abstract of each day's proceedings, but owing to the' igtue of a daily , Camp Journal, wherein air the proceedings are fully de tailed, and: the circulation of which is general among those interested, we have refrained. The trains passing through Carlisle have been, crowded daily, since the commencement of the meeting, and MlL:citizens, in large numbers, have been in attendance, besides quite a number who have tents, and have remained on the grounds since its start. The-meet ing has been a success in every respect, and we congtatullite our Methodist brethren, and hope all their undertak ings will meet with the saline success. TUE following proceedings took place before Judge Graham and Judge Stuart, at Chambers, on Monday last : No. 900, August Tel-m, Common wealth e:e relatione Mary P. Lake, vs. Gen. ' In the 'above eases' J. H. Graham, jr., and N. C. Herman appeared for the pe titioners, and Lient.A. B. Gardner, First Artillery, for the Government.
