The attention v, hiell Mr. Beadle's let
ters on Mormonism, written from Utah
to the Uoalmereial," at
tracted thronghout the country, just i lies
us in predicting that, this new work from
his pen will command a large and rapid
sale. (tf all the, writers who have yet
touvhed upon this theme, Mr. Readle
is, perhaps, the best prepared for the
task. His long reshlence among
,the
Mormons, and his position as editor of
The Salt I,iike Reroptep, have given him
a familiarity"with the , subjeet; which it
is impoAsible fur any mere transient visi
tor to acquire. -We tare.therefore just f
lied in placing more than usual confi
dence in his statement's, which 11,, sup.
ports, by ;In overwhelming array of test i
muny from both - Mormon and (lentil,.
Si MMUS.
It may be said with- truth, that the
,nriosity of the public with regardto t
state or allith•s in Utah, was never tin
great as at present. • Mr: Beadle's hook
AVM - imply satisfrpie Most curious. flu
traces the history of ;Mormonism from
the birth 'of its Prophet and founder,
down to the present day, and :Molt's how
completely the Mormon Leaders have
duped their followers ; hoW they . ate
kept-in a state of treasonable hostility Ii
the Union ; and lam - the Territory has
been made a scene of cunstant strife and
bloodshed. 'flip work' goes deep into
the Ipysterieil of this'strange religion and
lays bare its horrible licentiousness. It
abounds in records of the viledt and most
terrible occurrences, which make it read
more like a romance than. a veritable
history. I I -
Coming before us as it does at a time
when the General cloverament is mak
ing a determined effort to restore order
and morality in Utah, we and it a most
- welcome and useful work. It is far
more thrilling than the majority of sen
sational books with which the country
is flooded, and is calculated to (I() much
good by giving to the public a candid
and impartial statement of a question
winch bids fair to cause no little trouble.
The book is sold only by subscription;
and agents are wanted in every county.
