Again we would call the attention of
our readers to the announcement of the
first lecture of tbe course On to-morrow ,
Priday, cvening." - Da Chaffin, th• Afri
can explorer, will then speak, as we be
fore have mentioned. We feel confident
that no one \Vho bas ever heard of him,
through his works, or by reputation, Will
neglect this opportunity of seeing him
face to face, and Iteai• him give the ex
perience of those years of travel, explora
tions, and danger, spent in opening up a
country so long _unknown, but' now
through his and other's exertions, being
gradually brought out of the darkness
that has shrouded it, and awakens more
and more of the public attention, as it
becomes better known and more clearly
defined. Lot every one who, can attend,
be present, for it is a chants seldom offered
us, and will cause us many a regret if wo
pass it by-. We are happy to announce
this connection, that a new and very
pleasing ifoature will IM introduced, add
added to the - evening's programme. AL
most every one attending leoturos and
public assemblies of a like kind, are frc;--
fluently at a loss to know how to pass
the time that elapses from taking their
seats until the lecturer makes his ap
pearance. To obviate this, and fill this
interval pleasantly, the services of the
grand orchestra of Carlisle' Barracks,
under the leadership of Prof. Hold, have
been secured, and for half an hour pre
viouS to the lecture, :Till give some choice
selections from the compositiOns of cele
brated composers. This will-increase'
still more the attractions of the evening,
and certainly add much to its enjoyment.
The committee will undoubtedly bave
the thanks of the public, for their un
tiring efforts in - their behalf, and their
wishes to instruct and please. Lecture
