Our list of deaths last week was a sad
one. It told of the lose of three children
in ono family in less than two months, at
one of the regular army posts, on this Pa
cific coast. The parents on whom this
groat affliction fell, Capt. ! Thomai \ and
Mrs. Jennie McGregor, were well kno*n
in this commuaity, and . in \ their deep,
distress they have the-heartfelt sympathy
of all who ,know them hero. - May their
whole . -.futur9 life be entirely free from
sorrow, for surely they have been most
sorely tried. '

The receipts of intsnaal-r(fvenue in the
district composed of the - counties of York,
Cumberland, and Perry, for thei four
months commencing July 1,.-aiid ending
October 31, 1869, (meccas the same period
last-year, $22,035.40. This increase is
the more remarkable from the fact that
there was twi one-third 'the production
of whisky in that period this year that
.there was in 1868. One distillery that
produced ten barrels a day, which was
worked the last year, was not in opera
tion this season.- The-cost of assessment
in the same period in 1868 was $5,674.97,
against $4,217.12 in 1869—a decrease in
expenses of $1,482.85—0r a saving of
Virer437o per month.— York Pepublican.
s The body of a drowned woman Was
found, last week, in the Yellow Breeches
creek, nearldr. Hursh's mill, 'in Lower
Allen township. Bho was the mother
of a family, and resided in York county.
It is supposed she was deranged at the
time of the rash act.

twenty-foal ounces, and measuring near

The Sim will be the ruling planet next
year;lnd besides the usual disadvantages
of a hot, dry atmosphere, apoplexies and
heart diseases will be more than. ordi

ing may not be out of place, we would
take the liberty to caution persons against
all physical and mental excesses--over
ilidulgence in food or drink--zor an undue
exercise of their feelings and passions.

The Committee appsinted by the Amer

Of the various coal burning stoves, "have
reported that, after making a thorough
examination.of theLvatious-Stoies u and
tenting them thoroughly, both in,refer

have finind the s American Base Burner'

most economical,: and the most powerful

this stove consumed full one-hal& less
fuel than the others, and in eVeigl case
