    SPRING HATS AND' BONNETS. —The
materials used in Spring bets - 110d bonnets
are of the lightest kind, consisting moistly
of lace and silk; with a sprinkliug of chip,
tuscan or straw. The colors are varied to
suit the different female tastes. There tire
blue, purple ; green, drat) and , white, but
green and drab appear to be the prodoin - -
inapt colorS. By way of orinttnonta;
oradge Powers,. lilacs, butter-cups and
,daisies, wrought into wreaths or, bunches;
are very fashionable. Veils and streirilera
behind aweless worn, and 'the strings aro
worn somewhat shorten than, they were
last season. The " Sorosis" is-composed
of black lace, trimmed in front with black
lace, and in the centre of which Is a bow
of green ,s 1 1 .1( and little tufts of flowering .
grass; the Mick is finished off with loops
of green satin; green satin strings, trimmed
with black lace, and held together - with
large green satin bow. The Ristori,"
made of straw, and trimmed with the sante
material and a row of ptinsies;, fail&
trimming of bluish lace and straw in loops;
strings of turned straw .and lace, ending

styles, and also, than have been worn for

This great enterprtito is approaching completion
with a rapidity that astonishes the world. Over
fifteen (16OO) hundred mica have been built by two
(2) powerful companies) the 'Union Pacific 4.sWoad . ,
beginning at Omaha, building west, and the Cho
ral Pacific RlWoad beginning at Sacrament& and
building eat, until the two roads shall meet. Lees
than two'hundrod and fifty miles remain to_ be
built. The greater part of the interval le now grad
ed, and a is reasonably expected that the through
connection between San Francisco and NeW York
will be completed by July 1.
An the amount of Government aid given to each
is depeddeikt upon the length of read each shall

to secure the construction and control of, what,
when completed ,will be one and:. the only grand
Railroad Line connecting the Atlantic and Pacific
oast.
One Hundred and Ten Million Dollars ($110,000,.
W) in money have already been- expended by the
two powerful companies engaged In this great en
terprise, and they will apeedily 'complete the per•
tiori yet, to be built; When.the United Staten Gov
ernment found it necessary to mum the construc
tion of the Pacific Railroad, to develop nod protect
its own Interest, it gave the onmpnnies s authorircd
to bfilid It such.ample aid ou ehould render Its
speedy completion beyond a doubt. The GoVerm
meat aid may be briefly slimmed up no follow.:
First. The right of way and all nocen vary timber
and atone from public domain.-
Second. It makes a donation el, 4800 amen of
land to the mile, which, when the mind Is completed,
will amount to -twenty-three million (23,000,000)
acres, and all of it within twenty (20) miles of
railroad. ,

fifty million dol
