THE followidg remarks and migges

our renders , we coinmeted tho_nctlele_to_their careful

A Hundred and one makers of Organs, Cottage, Pat , '

than of must other Instruments. If there Is really an
essentitelZdiffeyence In them, if there are some excel

some criterion forjudging of. them, some - facts which
will enlighten them. - We cheerfully concede thespace
for this article knowing that there Is hardly a family,

and vexation. Ito knotv' this article to emanate. from
a candil and intelligent source, and thus see give it to
our readers. . .
The question Is often asked, what are °reed organs?"
We whew, 'they are, In most cases, nothing in the
world but the old melodeondhe disg uise. Many at the
so-called organs have the seine bellows, the sem reeds,
and the same p nzral internal at rangement. With the
bellows : turned on edge to gain room, they have simply
put on a more pretentious exterior 'and a more high

Nothing so annoys a true organist as to have the vol.
um of sound swelling and jerking spasmodically with I
every variation of force on the bellows,}which is always
the ease where the reeds open direct ihtei tho bellows
at air passages, instead Of a wind-chest or sound-box.
And yet some makers even go so far as to claim this
spasmodic or automatic jerking of -the bellows on the
reeds as an excelloi6e, just as though they dielsnot
know that It must very soon throw the reeds out of
tune, and injure the bellows; and ad though It were
not all easier matter to obtain a much better tend nitro

The largo divided hollows, or (halide bellows, is also
a very lems•rtant improvement. By this Mane not

whole length of the instrument and sosconstructed as
