When Moses was sworn
.in it said he was a
low, dirty, drunken blackguard and a dis
grace to the nation and all the rest of the
world, but this ho only said in fun, because
ho knows and says that Moses is.the greatest
man that over was bOtn and that he ought
to be President for the rest of Jiia life and a
fow years more. Some of the folks here say
the . Volunteer is only making fun when it
says so, but we know it says so• from pa
triotic motive's and because it wants its
friend ZINZT to have a good long time in ,
the Post ()Mee. Some of you are malc-,'
ing a groat fuss about 'Moses vetoing
the freedmen's" bill, we think ho did right
because it feeds two or three of the poor
white trash down south to one of us. Now
I write you this letter for your own good,
because if you and old Stevens and some
more of you don't stop abusing Moses he
will put the whole of you in a worse place
of bondage than that from which he deliv
ered us, and it will serve you right.

PURIFY TUE BLOOD.—If the blood be pure the
body which is formed from and by the blood cannot
be - disensed. But if there be In any part of the body
any affection, such as a boil or ulcer, even a bruise,
the blood circulating through the part takes up im
pure matters from the local affection and carries it In.
to the general system. This Is the cause often of sud
den death to persons of full habit afflicted with boils
and ulcers, and who use no medicine ; the matter
gets into the circulating system and chokes up the .
fine blood vessels which supply the brain with vitality

WORKS OF NATURE.—In a state
of health the intestinal canal may be com
pared to a river wtoso waters flow over the adjoining
land, through the channels nature or art has made,
and improve their qualities ; so lung as it runs on
smoothly the channels arc kept pure and healthy ; if
the course of the river Is stopped, then the water in
the canals is no longer pure, but soon becomes stav
nant. There is but ono law of circulation In nature.
When there is a superabundance of humorial fluid Ip
the intestinal tubes, and costiveness takes place, it
flows back into the blond vessehl, and Infiltrates itself
into tho circulation. To establish the free course of
the river, we must remove the obstructions which
stop its free course, and those of its tributary streams

REED ORGANS, &o
THE `l following remarks and sugges-
Uinta regal:4i° ads immensely popular Instru
ment will denhtless interest and profit very many of
our readers, we commend ,tho article to their careful
perusal:—
A hundred and ono makers of Organs, Cottage, Par
lor, Cabinet, American, School Organs, eta etc., are
each claiming to make the beet instrument in the
world. Being comparatively a now instrument as at
present constructed, we are convinced the public aro
much less capable of judging of its merits, or demerits,
than of most other instruments. If there is really an
essential difference In them, if there aro some excel
lent and memo worthless ones, the public should have
some criterion for judging of then,, some facts which
will enlighten them. We cheerfullyconcede thespace
for this article knowing that there is hardly a family,
'or church, or school in all the land, but is more or less
interested In t his topic. We are also aware of its be.
Ing a great misfortune, a real calamity. to any of them
to purchase an Inferior or worthless Organ, ruinous to
good pitying, and often a source of much annoyance
and vexation. We know this article to emanate from
11 candid and intelligent source, and thus we give It to
our readers.
The question is often asked, what are "reed organs?"
Wo adswer, they are, in most cases, nothing in the
world but the old melodeon in disguise. slatartilf the
so-called organs have the same bellows, the sarateeds,
and the Gam , gensral Internal arrangement. With the
bellows turned on edge to gain room, they have simply
put on a more pretentious exterior and a more high
sounding name. But an organ, to bo in reality an or
gan, must have a wind chest or reservoir for air sepa
rate from the bellows, into which wind-chest the reeds
open, and the tone has room to expand and perfect it
self Into the full round tone, similar to the flute or pipe
organ, even, smooth, firm, and mellow ; and this tone
from reeds cannot be obtained In any other way known.
Nothing so annoys a true organlit as to have the vol
ume of sound swelling and jerking spasmodically with
every variation of force on the bellows, which is always
the case where the reeds open direct into the bellowa
or air passages, instead of a wind chest or sound-box.
And yet some makers even go so far as to claim this
spasmodic or automatic jerking of the bellows on the
reeds as an excollsuce, just as though they did not
know that it must very soon throw the reeds out of
tune, and injure the bellows; and as though it were
not an easier matter to obtain a much better and mare
easily managed swell by other methods. The truth
is, any organ, so called, or melodeon which has the
wind acting directly upon the reeds, is nothing more
nor less than a huge accordeon, dress it up us you may.
And when organists and true musicians become awn, o
or the tact that they can °num. manse mat are organs
In fact as well as in name, they will buy no more of the
olljectionable ones. Theo again the swot; should al
ways be separate and_ distinct from the bellows, so as
not to be acted on by the hand, or soft blowing, but
convenient so that the player can use it with the knee,
separate from the hands or feet, and than always un
der easy control, to be used ad libitum.
The large divided bellows, or double bellows, is also
a very important improvement. By this means not
only can the wind be supplied more evenly, but with
far greater ease to the performer, from the fact that
either bellows alone will be suffident for the lighter
melodies, thus permitting the player to change about
and rest the feet at will •, then it the bellows Is of
the requisite large size, and having the wind chest or
reservoir all will be well. As to the reeds, they must
bo scientifically tuned and voiced, or all the othergood
qualities In the world cannot produce a good toned In.
strument. The inquiry now very naturally arises,
where can the organ be procured combining all these
essential and desirable qualities I There I- only one
possessing all these points, and thatis the A3IERICAN
ORGAN, made by B. D. & 11. W. Smart. of Boston,
Binsets. Orr Wholesale Agent, 581 Broadway, New
York. These organs have a wind-chest extending the
whole length of the instrument and so constructed as
to act at the same time as a reverberating sound-box
or board, and having the same important relation and
part to perform that the sounding-board has to the
piano. This feature the makers have mitented, and
to it are owing in a great measure th. entirely 111.-
quailed fullness and rich- CE...9 of tone so highly prized
by all who have used these organs They also have
the largest and best divided bell..ws in use, which Is
another Important feature. No part of their work is
slighted, no expense or pains spared to make the A
