The whites of my eyes were very yellow; likewise in - skin ; my appetite all gone, and unable to digest what) did eat; bowole swoolen, irregularand costive. I nue very, low spirited, and had Such violent tipalla of coughing when 1 laid down at night and When I arose in the morning that they would last ono or two hours. I then would bo nearly exhausted, and was entirely unable to lie on my lett side. I cannot describe ?Ely wretched suffering as I would wish to do. Every or gan, in, my body was diseased or deranged. Such was my situation at this time, and I wits confined to my bed Dom the last of February, 1802, to June, 'Motet able to sit up. I had the best of medical attendance the whole of the time. My cough was so very bad that it racked mu very much. lat this time raised a largo 'quantity of thick, yell tv, ollen sive matter, setnetimos with blood, e nd It was generally accompanied by nau sea and, a furred and.thick coated tongue. ; At the time of coughing so badly 1 would have sharp, shout ing pains in my tuft side and heart, night sweats, and -soreness all through my whole chest; hadmuch in ward fever, pain in my back and under my shoulder blades and in the small of my hack, and at times so se vero that it would throw the lute spasms. Now my physician gave me up to die. Others I had, and the best of them, but they could do nothing tor me, and at that time 1 was nothing but skin audbories Lthen Was in the western part of Missouri. In June last we loft there for the East, and in August last we came to cm York, and I was so reduced tont I • could Only walk a little with my husband's help. After I had been hero a short time the salt water breeze mad' me feel much better ibr a time and thou had again to call a physician for aid. We had four of the best pht sielans of hew York on the diseases of the lungs, and doctors of all kinds, but of no avail. They said 1 was past cure, and that my lungs were too far gone for any one to cure tau. But at this time I was on my feet a bout the house. not able to do much of anything, In November last I grew worse, and the consumption diarrhea sot in and lasted about eight‘weelts. We had tried all and everything that I could grasp at like a Us lug person for my diseases—consumption and liver complaint but 01 no avail. In January. 1863, 1 was brought down again ou my bed, and was not expected to live the night out. My tiumeand stayed at my side, and other friends, and they all givc mil up to elle. At this time every one who saw me aid nut think. I would ever leave my bed it living woman. The first night I was attacked with spasms, and iris deranged moat of the time. A friend, Mrs. iiarria, came to s. e me the last of the week, sant Inoughl the cunday Mercury. In it was an aecouutot a great cure pert tined by Dr. Schenck. Site read It to me, and it teas so much like my disease that 1 asked my husband to go and 800 hint for 111. At this time 1 had %teen up all hopes of ever getting well agate, and wade my peace with Clod, to be ready whenever he called for me. Un the 2.7t1i of January, 1863, my husband called on Dr. cchenek, 32 blond street, hew York, and stated to haw 1/1j case, w ith a request for him to call and see me which he din, and oxen:oiled me with the resplr moot,. When ho site about to go 1 asked him it ho could cure mu 7 file reply was; cannot tell, both lungs are diseased, and tile bronchial tubes are allecl ed on both sides. - And yet he seemed to think there wele lungs enough left to effect a cure if the diarrhea could he stopped. PIANO-FORTES. DRIGGS' NE W PATENT. RE the only Instruments constructed ion a truly scientific principle. They have great or strength, and wll' remain longer in 'rune than any other Piano. The construction in simple and natural all the extraneous lumber In the body of the instru ment IR dispensed with; the sound boards are moray two arched planks of thin wood, like the front and back of a inlin ; the atrings are attached to a strong Iron frame, which is separated and entirely independ. ent of the case, thereby dispetufing witn the old harp form of stringing, by substitutinz straight bridges, preserving at the same time the Over Strung Bass, of which Mr. Briggs is the inventor. By these improve. ments we gain much more vibratory power, at the name time preservi n g all its purity and richness of tone. 'fbey have received the highest testimonials from the Prose, and all the principal artists in the country, among which nro : Harry Sanderson, Max Maretzok, Theodore Shineld, Herman Wollenhaupt, Francis H. Its principle, by which grettt Increase of vibratory power in obtained, being very simple and perfectly philosophi cal. Tho tousle grand and noble; it has great capac ity for sustaining the sound or singing, and its vol ume of tone or power I have never heard excelled In depth, purity, and sympathetic swootness. Wm. HENRY FRY, Into, musical critic of the N. Y. Tribune says :—I have examined your newly invont l od Plano-Fortes. They merit all the praise given to them by Messrs Melberg, Gottschalk, Strackosch, Masan and others. As regards structure, they aro original and philosophical; in: pticlVo , olnino, ,and continuity of fano; in vocal voisimilitvido, that crowning excel. Levi C. Beck, Pastor of the Baptist Church, Pemberton, N. J., formerly of the North Bap tist Church, Philadelphia, at present Pastor of the Baptist Church, Chester, Pa. * I have known floolland's German Bitters favorably for a number of years, 1 have used them in my own fancily, and have been so pleased with their effects, that 1 was Induced to recommend them to many oth ers, and know that they have operated in a strikingly beneficial manner. I tan great pleasure In thus pub licly proclaiming title fact, and calling the attention of those afflicted with the diseases for which they aro recommended, to these bitters, knowing from expert once the. my recommendation will be sustained. Gootleniou.:—l have recently con laboring under the distressing effects of indigestion, accompanied by a prostration of the nervous system. Numerous rem edies were recommended by friends, and some of them tested, but without relief. Your lloolland's German Bitters wore recommended by persons who had tried them, and whose favorable mention of these bitters induced me to try them. I must confess that I had an aversion to Patent Medicines from the "thousand and ono" quack "Bitters," whose only alms seems to bo to palm off sweetened and drugged liquor upon the community in a sly way, and the tendency of which, I fear, is to make many a confirmed drunkard. Upon learning that.yours was, really a medicinal prepara tion I took it with happy effect. Its action, not only upon the stcmach, but upon the nervous system, was prompt and gratifying. I feel that I have derived great and permanent benefit from the use of a few bottles. From Rev. J. Newton Brown, D. D., editor of the Rn cyclopedia of Religious Knowledge and Ohm ietian Chronicle Philadelphia. Aitoough not disposed to favor or recommend Patent Medicines in general, through distrust of their ingre dients and effects, I yet know of no sufficient reasons why a man may not testify to the benefits ho .believes himself to have received from any simple preparation, in the hope that Ito may thus contribute to the bene fit of others. I do this the more readily in regard to ifootiand's Gorman Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M. Jack son, of this city, because I was prejudiced against them for many years, under the impression that they wore chiefly an alcoholic mixture. lam indebted to my friend, Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for the removal of LIGe prejudice by proper teats and for encouragement b. try them when suffering from great and long continued debility: The uso of three bottles of these Bitters at the boginnibg of the present year, was followed by evident relief and restoration to a degree of bodily and mental vigor which I had not felt for !six months bo fore, and Iffid almost despaired of regaining. I there— fore thank God and my friend for directing me to the use'of them. From the Roy. E. D. Fonda]], Assistant Editor Chris tf an Chronicle, Plifla.
