DEATH OF CAPT. I. S. WATERBUD.Y.
—The Haiiisburg Telegraph, in speaking of
the death of-Capt. I. B. WatorburYl.whO was
formerly a citizen of Carlisle, Says: ,
”When war was declared ogainst Mexico,
pet was one of the first to join the ranks of the
Cameron Guards, in which company he held
a lieutenant's commission. He was engaged
in all the conflicts, from the taking of Vera
Cruz to the entrance of the army into the
Grand Plaza of the city of Mexico, and never
received a wound of aay kind, and oven es
coped the diseases incident to ; the country and
camp life, which have sent to' tkeiiloaihomes
all but a few 'survivors of that memora b le war.
• When the presentrebellion broken out—the
very day the flag of gort Sumter was fired
upon Captain Waterbury was in the street .

that•during a greater portion of the time the
regiment was in the field he performbd the •

As soon as his regiment-returned, he com

very, short-time, and was attached to the Rif
ty-fifth regiment, Colonel Richard ',White.—
For upwards of two yea4s endured ..the
burning sands of the Southern sea share, and
escaped the ,ills Pihdixced by the milarious
swamps rof South Carolina, only to be stricken
_down by,the rays of a sun less vertical, and
die while — the loud buzzes of yietory were ring

wiehes to fall—with his face to the foe—but
he died in the service of his country, beneath
the waving of itaimaner bortie on to certain
victory ; and, with these surroundinks, is .it
not probable this he passed away:

take his departure to mingle in the busy
scenes of active life. To go exit kitten' the broad
stage of the world's drama, there to act his
fart.. for good or evil. His college days were
, fled, and with a sad heart -he aroSasin that
beautiful
But time and tide wait for no man and the
hour draws nigh when he must bid farewell
to Dickinson and all its joys to,Carlisle and
all its cherished memories- His companions
gather around him, the brave, true•hearted
—each is there, and as they grasp his hand,

the train drew near, thundering over the rail,

and bore him aloft in triumph, upon their
