tar The following letter the Harrisburg
Telegraph, gives such a correct and succient
account of affairs at Carlisle Barracks that
we transfer it to our local columns.
The receni change in the weatlier has had
a tendency to wake the soldiers in these
parts look about them for inure comfortable
quarters, and the consequence is boards and
camp stoves are greatly in demand. The
commandant of the post here is an old sol
dier, and knows the requirements of his men,
consequently the prospects are that the men
remaining here the coming winter will be as
well provided with condomlble quarters as
au in . the service.
file barracks, which were burned by the
rebels last summer, are beMg re-built, one
part of them will be ready for occupancy in
a week or two. The buildines will lie of a
modern style, and when completed, Carlisle
Barracks will he a more beautiful place than
prior to its destruction.
To-day a detachment of one hundred and
fifty conscripts leave here for the Army of
the Potomac, to join the. Itt.'ith regiment I'.
V. They are os tine a of of men us have yet
left this camp and are mostly drafted. They
represent Cambria, Eranklin, Luzerne, Hum-,
tingdon, Montour an 1 Northumberland coun
ties.
Captain Charles WK. Leoser, 2d United
States Cavalry, has been relieved froin his
command•of the drafted camp awl ordered
to join hiS regiment, now with the Army of
th e Potomac.. During his command 01 the
drafted camp, Capt. L. won the esteem and
'respect of all who came in contact with hini;
And his departure is much regretted by (he
whole ccmmand. Capt. E. P. Zinn, of the
Seventh lieserves, has taken the command
vacated by Capt. Leoser. Capt. Zinn is an
old resident of this county. lie went into
the service as a private soldier•, and with an
indomitable will, coupled with indisputable
bravery, proven on many a hard fought field,
oe has attained the rank• he now holds. Such
men deserve, as 1 am Hare they will receive,
the public approbation of th,ir promotion.
During the past month, out of over 500
conscripts received at this post, not over six
have deserted. This speaks very well for
the class of men received here. B.
