WITAT OP THE STAT,E."—See an ar
ticle on our first page under this caption.—
It ,iii:,:frorn the pen of Col. McClure, of the
ChaMbersburg Repository, and the writer
evinces, that clear-headed sagacity and inti
mate knowledge of State•politics which has
characterized' his pilblic career. The esti
mate of the prObable result will have the
effect of confirming the friends of the Union
in the success of the goOd cause, but we en
treat them to relax no exertion on account
of its confident predictions of an auspicious
result. We must dissent, however. with - the
estimate of the district in which this county
is included.- The friends of Curtin here, are
making such a canvass of the county as has
never been made before, and although we
will lose sensibly over Curtin's last vote by
the efflux of volunteers since theii , we hope
to almost, it' not quite make up the deficiency.
by the patriotic action of our intelligent de
mocracy who will refute to he dragooned
into even a quasi support of Jeff Davis.
