DEATH OF TEM REBEL GENERAL " STONEWALL,"
JACKSON
The death of" Stonewall" Jackson is an
nounced in late Richmond papers. Durincr
the battle of Chancellorville he was wound
ed severely in the lett arm. Amputation
was performed, the limb being taken off a
bove the elbow, with a view to save his life.
The result proves that the operation was in
vain, and the celebrated Cliiertain, the pride
and boast of the Rebel army, "sleeps his last
sleep."

sermon in church, in Philadelphia, on Thurs

one part of chloride and one h.i.f part of lard,
placed in a narrow hand round the trunk of a
tree prevents insects from creeping up it. It
has been noticed that rats and mice quit places
on which a certain quantity of chloride has
