    CONTRABANDS.—‘Large numbers

pions of Jeffdom. Their stories agree so

whole party. A film young fellow—black
as ebony—tells us that he w.is the slave of
A man named QUEES, of Page county, Va.
QUERN, at the btralcing out of the rebellion,
joined the Southern army, leaving his plan
tation nod slaves in the care of a black
foreman. On the advent of the Union
forces, these slaves—fireman and all, con_
eluded to tear themselves away from the
Arcadia of Dixie; and here they are. Who
blames them?
