gorges, Tenn., Feb. 28th," he writes as fel

Dear Father—Having a gond rest. since
the capture of Forts Henry and lionekon, I
feel like laying down the sword and taking up
the pen to review our work. - Before going in
to action I was fearful lest I should prove the

The government having worked the order
that mustered Captain Slmismi's company
out of service, he went out to reclaim Boyd,
who had belonged to it, but who subsequently
joined Edward's company— as the same or
der conferred authority to remand the boys
that had joined other regiments, if willing to
return. The Captain in a letter-to his father,
dated " Camp Douglas, Marchl3th," says that
he had reached Fort Donelson in time to wit
-floss- the whole_ engagement—found-his- broth -
ers "in good `health and fine spirits"--aod
rthatßoyn is rICVe with him, t, guarding the
priSoders that he helped to take."
