OBJECTS ANDCHARACTER OF THE SCIIOOL.
Mount Washington College affords to Its pupils, ample
means and appliances. for thorough physical and Intel.
lest net training, with all the advantaged and surround.
lags of a Chadian family.
Provision is made for physical education, in the daily
practices of calisthenic exorcists, 'the value of which
has been seen, in the improved health and fuller mule
cuter development of the pupils of the College. ~The
verandahs and extensive grounds laid out is. beelutiful
',stk.., furnish' both tit...lnvitation and opportunity for
healthful recreation in the op. air.
As regards intellectual culture It Is believed that
the course of study and methods of instruction adopted
at Mount Warhington, are, to my the least, equal to
those of the best schools in the country. The studies
' to which its pupils are engaged, with the free oral
teachings that accompany each recitation. and the fro.
quent delivery of formal lectures on scientific or liter
ary subjects, with clicko readings front the Classic pouts
and prove writers of the English language combine
moat faverably, to produce the best form of ! true wo
manly cultivation.
In thie connection, it is doomed proper to mention,
as minor the groat advantages of the Inititution, ash
as mate. tally effecting Its character and contributing
greatly to the muccessful accomplishment of its objects,
that It Is exclusively a Hoarding School, and that no
pupils are admitted, but auch as aro, in full, members
of the College Family. • -
A, course haltingen ostabliebed for resident graduates,
-who any' desire to prosecute their studios beyond the
regular curriculum. Beside the study of the text books
mentioned, they will prosecute a eystematic course of
reading, and will have the milieu loge ofspecial lectures.
The College In furnished with complete apparatus for
" illustration In the departments of Chemistry and Natu
ral Philosophy: and the public, may rent assured that
whatever may be neconsa.y, from time to time, to keep
pace with the progress of the age, will be brought into
the service of the College.
The religious teachings of the College contemplate a
thorough and harmonious acquaintance with the fun
damental facts and truths of Christianity, as taught
clearly in the scriptures, and which rise aboveall mere
sectarianism' to that higher unity of the Divine Ufa,
in which “there is neither Jew- utir. Creek, for ail are
one In Christ Jesus."
The entire character of the religious training of the
College is eminently Christian without being sectarian
—and whlie'rio pains will be spared to impart A' prat ,
Meal knowledge of the Christian Religion, parents -and
guardians may rest assursd, that no attempt will be
made to interfere with the particular denominational
relatlrtiotthe pupils.
