• Here are '656 Inventions designed to
,facilitate the work of the soil all brought
out in one year, Other years are similar
ly productive. It is true that Many of
these inventions do not turn out to be bf
special value either to the publio or the
inventors themselves; but there is origib-•
ality enough in each of them to warrant
careful governnient examiners in giving
a patent. And it is not to be doubted
that a considerable proportion of these
new implements, and additions to old
ones, are real improvements which will
faCilitate human labor, and lesSen toil.
To Dux AND COOK' SWEET CORN.—
Soon as the corn is fit for the table, husk
nad spread the oars, in an open oven, or
some fast drying place. ( When the ker
nels loosen shell the corn, or shell as soon
as you can. Then spread upon a cloth to
dry in the sun, or on paper in a warm
oven ; . stir it often that it may dry fast
and not overheat. It more resembles the
undried by its being whole, is sweeter,
and retains more of its natural flavor by
drying faster. When all dried, exposo it
to the wind by turning it slowly from dish
to dish; the wind blows off all that troub
lesome white chaff.
In the morning of the day it is wanted,
look it over nn I wash it ; then boil gently
in water sufficient to cover it. Refill
with hot water if more is needed. • A
short time I.Otour dine(iLehould-now
tender and"nearly dry), add some sweet
milk, or cream, pepper and salt to taste ;
a little sugar is an improvement. If the
cream is not perfectly sweet, it curdles.
CRUMPETB.—Two pounds of flour, two
eggs, one half teacup of yeast, one pint of
sweet milk ; a little salt.
BLACKBERRY WlNE.—Measure your
berries and &leis° then]; then to every
gallon add one quart of water. - Let the
mixture stand twenty-four hotirs, stirring
'occasionally; then strain oft the liquor
into a cask, to every gallon adding two
pounds of sugar. Cork tight, and let it
stand till the following October, and you
will have wine ready for use without any
further straining or boiling. •
FLOATING ISLAND.—A 'flice_dish for
tea• may be made in the following way .
Beat the whites of two eggs to a stiff
foam, which pour upon a quart•of -milk
previously set to boil; when the milk
boils, the foam is done and you may take
it off. Beat the yolks of five and whites
of three eggs together, with sugar and
salt ,to taste, and stir into the boiling
milk; let it boil: and place in your sauce
dish, with the foam floating on the top.
You may season witinemon or vanilla.
STEAM PUDDING.----o.ne cup sour milk,
one teaspoonful cream tartar, one-half tea-•
spoonful soda, two eggs, one teaspoonful
salt; made as thick as griddle•cakee, and
steam one hour; add whatever fruit you
like.
FANCY BIKILIITB.—une pound of al:
monde, one of sugar, andsomo rose water.
Beat the almonds fine and sprinkle with
tne rose water; when they are smooth to
the touch, put in a pan with flour sifted
through a fine solve ; put the pan on a
slow fire to dry the paste till it does not
stick to,thc fingers -I-keep stirring to keep
it from burning:; then take it off and make
it into fancy shapes; you may ice them,
or not.
To M.tK' HARD SOAP.—Ono of your
correspond.. nth—C. A'. CHASE, Ohio—

HOSTETTER'S
STOMACH BITTERS.
The proprietand manufacturers of HOS
' TETTER'S CELEBRATED STOMACH BIT
TERS can appeal with perfect confidence to
physicians and citizens generally of the United
States, becauselhe article has attained a rgint-
Lotion heretofore unknown. A few facts upon
this point will speak more powerfully than
voltunce of bare assertion or blazoning puffery.
The censtunption of llostetter's Stomach Bit
ters for the last year amounted to over a half
million hottles, and from its manifeat steady
increase in tittles past, it is'evident that during
the coining year the consumption will reach
near one million bat ties. This immense amount
could never have been sold 'but for thvare
medicinal propert ietf contained in the prekra--
tion, and the
,sanctioir of: the moot prominent
physicians in those sections of the country
where the article is bestlnown, who not only
recommend the Bittern to their patients, but.
are ready at all times.to give testimonials - toits
efficacy in all, cases of stomachic derangements
and the diseaSek resulting therefrom.
This is not a temporary popularity, obtained
by extraordinary efforta in the way of trum
poling the qualities of the' Bitters, but a solid
estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is
destined to be as , eliduring as time itself.
Hostetter's Stomach Ilittera Lave proved
a Godsend to regions where fever and ague
and various other bilious complaints have
counted their victims by hundreds. To be
able to state confidently that the "Bitters"
are a certain cure for the Dyspepsia and like
diseases, is to the proprietors a source of un
alloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter
from the stomach, purifies the blood, and
imparts repeived vitality to the nervous system,
givixg it that tone and energy indispensable
for the restoration of health. It operates upon
the stomach, Hier, and other digestive organs,
mildly but. posierfully, and soon restores them
to a condition easential to the healthy discharge
of the functions of nature.
Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily as
per directions on the bottle, and they will find
in it a stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort
declining yeani, as it is.pleasnnt to the palate,
invigoratinglo the bowels, excellent as a tonic,
and rejuvenating generally. We have the evi
dence of thou Sands of aged men and women
who have experiencathe benefit of using this'.
preparation while suffering from stomach de
rangements and general debility; acting under
the advice of physicians, they have abandoned
all deleterious drugs and fairly tested the
merits of this' article. A, few words to the
"gentler sex. There aro...certain OHO:1810ton
their cares are'eo harassingthat many of them
sink under the trial. The relation of mother
and. child is so absorbingly tender, that the
mother, especially if she be young, is apt to
forget.her 'own health in Ler extreme anxiety
for her intent.., Should the period of maternity
arrive during the summer aeason, the wear of
body and raiud is generally aggravated. Hero,
then, Is a neeeasity for a stimulant to recupe,
rate the energies of t the ay:dent, and enable the
mother to bear. up under her exhausting trials
and. responsibilities. Nursing mothers gene
rally prefer the. Bitters to all other invigora
tors that' receive the endorsement of physi
cians, because' it is agreeable to the taste as
well as certaip to give a permOnent increase
of bodily strength.
All those persons, to whom we have particu
larly referred; above, to wit: 'sufferers from
fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhcca,
dysentery, indigestion, loss of - appetite, and
all diseases or derangements of, the Stomach:
superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary
occupation',:iiiid nursing motherS, will consult
their own physical welfare by giving to Hos
