CLEAN CELLARS

One of tht,.4rst,' duties of every house
holde'r, at this season of the year, is to
clean his cellar. pecaYing apples, cab
' bages and roots, of various sorts, old beef
an 1 pork 'barrels, rotten boards and what
ever else is' subject to decomposition,
should be gathered up and carried into the
,open air, or•put in a condition to 'produce
no unpleasant effluvia. To sweep, dust,
and bedeck the parlersabove,is not enough.
If there is corruption in the collar, it will
find its way aMong the carpets untl rose
wood of gilded mirrors in all the upper
rooms, making the air offensive and un
wholesome.' The' occupants of A house
are not so likely to notice these smells as
their visitors. •
Now, to aroid all this, begin the month
of May by a thorough - pgrifidation. Throw
open the doors and windows of the 'cellar,
and clear out all depayinginatters. Sheep
the floor and walls. Give the walls a gOod
coat of whitewash,' this- will exterpate
vermin, sweeten the air, and give the cel
lar a neat and tidy look, making it rival
the parlor in its way. If provisions; -or
other, substanpes liable to decay, have to
be kept in the cellar during the Summer,
chloride of dime should occasionally be
sprinkled over the floor, Keep the win

HOSTETTER'S
STOMACH BITTERS.
. The proprietors end, manufacturers of HOS
TETTER'S CELEBRATED STOMACH BIT
'TEES can nppeaL with perfect confidence to.
physicians and citizens generally of the United
States, because the article has attained a repu:
lotion heretofore unknown. A few facts upon
this point will speak more powerfully then
volumes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery.
The consumption of Hostetter's Stomach Bit
ters for the last year amounted Wows tt half
million bottles, and from its manifest steady
increpsein times past, it is evident that during
the coming year the cohsumption will reach .
near one' illion bottles. This immense amount
could never have been sold but for the rare
medicinal properties contained in the prepare.
lion, and the sanction of the most prominent
• physicians in those sections of the country
where the article is best known, who not only
• recommend 'the alitter.s . , to their patients, but
are ready at all times give testimonials to its
efliCmcy in-all cases of stomachic derangements
and the diseases resulting therefrom.
This is pot emporary popularity, obtained
by extraordinary efforts in the way of _trum
peting the qualities of the Bitters, but a solid
estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is
destined to be as enduring as time itself.
Hostetler's Stomach Bitters i have proved
a Godsend to regions where fever 'and ague
end various' other bilious complaints have
counted their victims by hundreds. To be
able to elate confidently that the "Bitters"
are a certain cure for the Dyspepsia and like
diseases ; is to the proprietors a' soqrco, of un.
.alloyed pleasure. It . removes all morbid matter
from thu . stomach, purifies, the blood, and
imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system,
giving it that tone and energy indispensable
foo the restoration df health. It operates upon
the stomach, liver, end other digestive organs,
powerfully, and soon restores them
to a:condition essential to the healthy discharge
of the functions of nature.
Elderly personS ntny use the Bitters daily as
per directions on the bettleiund they will find
in it a stimulant peculiailY adapted to comfort
declining years, as.it is pleasant tO . the palate,
invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a tonic,
and rejuvenating generally: - 11,C - havb - the - ovi-
dence of thousands of aged men and women
who have experienced the benefit of using this
preparation while suffering from stomach-de
rangements and general debility acting under
the advice of physicians, they have abandoned
all deleterious drugs and fairly tested the
merits of this article. A few words to the
gentler sex. Thore'tiro certain, periods when
-their cares are so harassing that many of them
—sink under the trial.' The relation of mother
and' child is so absorbingly tender, that The
mother, especially if sho i lte ,young, is apt,Ao
forget her own health in•her extreme anxiety
for her infant. Should the period of, maternity
arrive during the siniuner season, the wear of
body and mind is generally aggravated.
then, is a necessity for a stimulant to recupe
rate the energies of the, system, and enable the
mother to bear up under her exhausting trials
and responsibilities. Nursing mothers &in !
rally prefer the Bitters all other ,invigora-
tors that receive the endorsement of physi
cians, because it is agreeable to the taste. as
well as certain to give' a permanent increatie`
of bodily strength.
411 those persons, to whom wo have particu
larly, referred above, to wit: sufferers from
fever and agile, caused by malaria, diarrhoea,
dysentery, indigestion, loss of .appetite, and
all diseases or derangements of the stomach,
superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary
occupation, and nursing mothers, will-consult
their own physical welfare by giving to Iles-,
tetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters a trial.
CAUTION.—Wo caution 'the' public against
using !any of the many imitations or counter-!
foils; but ask for HOSTETTER'S CELEBRATED
